We had the good fortune of connecting with Loly Noghreh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Loly, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
As a Personal chef , people have this perception that I eat super incredible, well plated food all the time. Reality is that I get to taste all the amazing food I cook for my clients, but I don’t get to eat it . Most of the ingredients I purchased are high quality and super expensive. Clients pay for a service and meals that requires, logistics, dedication, love and passion. At home I want to eat simple comfort easy food.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Cooking is a form of art and is an extension of showing love and passion. What sets me apart from other chef in the field is my menu. My creativity to provide dishes with food that feeds the soul, great to the eyes and delicious. Food that could bring a memory from home or could create a memory . Food that the palate craves. Creamy black beans with steamed white rice, tostones with avocado sauce . Food that has color, texture, flavor, balance and aroma. The road to today was not easy, I quit my job in the mortgage industry of 20 plus year to become a full time personal chef. I used to cater and cook for clients on the side for five years while working a full time job, that I literally didn’t like it (hate it) finally decided to work full time as a personal chef, even though I didn’t have a financial plan or all the resources but I had the best intentions and motivation I’m excited to continue cooking and expand my business in this demanding industry. I’m still learning and growing but the number one lesson I learned is to follow my heart and it’s never to late!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in one of the most beautiful parts of Virginia, Loudoun County. I literally called the little Tuscany. Full of wineries, cutest towns, and delicious food. I will start a day with a delicious breakfast in my town of Leesburg. Coffee shop dolce and ciabatta. Great coffee and delicious freshly baked bread. Then to a short hike to a beautiful bears den hike that end with an espectacular view of Loudoun County , then to a winery in Bluemont Winery for great wine and appetizers and to end the evening to one of my favorite restaurants in Virginia located in Paris Va The Ashby .
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom has clearly been one of my biggest support. She has been helping me in the kitchen cooking for hours and hours unconditionally! She recently told me that she admired my work ethic, tenacity, my hard work but the truth is that apple don’t fall to far from the tree. I’m the extension of her .. Without her it would have been more difficult to be where I’m now. She is my number one fan.
