We had the good fortune of connecting with Lori Carhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lori, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is another way of having faith in your own creativity so I love a good challenging risky situation! Sometimes I literally set myself up for risk because it’s exciting to sit on the edge of it and await the outcome. I practice this in my business and my personal life. I am the queen of reinvention!I left a small rural town in Oklahoma at the age of 21 to pursue an acting career in Chicago, where I only knew one person. After establishing myself there as a union actor, I dropped everything and drove to Los Angeles at the request of a reputable talent agency. After several successful years as an actor I opted to move on from acting to pursue my passion for skincare 12 years ago. I continue to learn, grow and enrich myself with new knowledge and skills. In the last 5 years, I have become a certified Liberation Breathing Facilitator and Integrated Energy Therapist! It was somewhat risky to bring these new services into my facial business at the risk of being too ‘woo woo’, but my clients love it! These new modalities integrate seamlessly into my business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m excited about the evolution of Skin Evolution! What started as a small little business with one signature facial has turned into broad spectrum of treatments and modalities. In addition to the Diamond Glow, I now have the Caci Microcurrent, which is a very powerful machine that was created to stimulate muscle memory in stroke patients. It provides that lift everyone is looking for. It’s an electronic facelift! I’ve also implemented Breathwork and Energy Therapy as an add-on to my facials. It is a beautiful blend and people love that added element of bliss. There is a heavenly vibe in the Cottage! It is all so very clean and holistic. Just lovely.

The first five years were hard because I was paying off the machine, but I disciplined myself and played many roles: Marketing Rep., Accountant, Manager, Esthetician etc. I had a partner who stole all of the profit in the very beginning and quickly understood that I didn’t need a partner.

I got to where I am today by forming solid relationships with my clients. They are amazing people! A lot of them are really good friends.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I value every human being that steps into the Cottage. It is a sacred sanctuary where healing takes place on many levels. I’m an Intuitive Esthetician/Breathworker who is capable of helping the individual balance not only the skin but also the soul.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a longtime resident of the Malibou Lake/Cornell area in the Santa Monica Mountains, I would definitely start with either dinner or an amazing breakfast at the Old Place and a glass of wine or hard kombucha at Cornell Winery right next door. It is the ultimate casual California experience with good food, lots of outdoor seating and peacocks galour! (Also random sightings of Jason Momoa ha!)

From there, we’d head over Kanan straight to Point Dume for the incredible hike through the dunes and up the cliffs for a beautiful view of the mountains.

Getty Villa is incredibly special and hassle free. It makes for a great day!

A drive into Hollywood is always a must, so I would take my guests up Beachwood Canyon for the best view and photo op of the Hollywood sign. That’s always a hit!

For a real “Malibu” flair, I like to surprise friends with the Olander House. Owned by an artist Leigh McCloskey, who has transformed his home into a masterpiece work of art and a venue for esoteric sound baths, spiritual speakers & artists performances. I love it!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband’s support and encouragement has always kept the flame of inspiration going for me in my personal life and in business. He’s been an actor for his entire life, (Timothy Carhart) but he’s really quite the renaissance man! His curiosity and retention of information never ceases to amaze me. When I informed Tim that I needed a $34,000 medical grade machine (The Diamond Glow), he is the person who made it happen for my business.

Because of the Pandemic, I moved my Skin Evolution onto my property in the Santa Monica Mountains and now we are business partners. We make a great team and I couldn’t do it without his support and (most important) sense of humor!
