We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Caivano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Being a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I provide a safe space for individuals of the community to work on their mental health. Through my practice, I hope to remove the negative stigmas surrounding therapy and mental health. Seeking help should be viewed as a sign of strength, not weakness. A core idea I typically reinforce: “it’s okay to not be okay.” I strive to show my clients, the community, and the world that mental health is just as vital as physical health. If we can make time for our physical well being we need to make time for our mental health. Neglecting mental health can have severe consequences and often leads individuals to substance abuse or even suicide. Nowadays most people can relate to struggling with anxiety and depression. The focus of my work is to create an environment that allows clients to deal with these issues with someone they can relate to. Connection allows us to truly heal. Two powerful phrases that are often said in my sessions are “I understand what you’re going through” and “help me understand”. Once I’ve established that connection, I help my clients learn how to process and express emotions, effectively communicate, set boundaries, gain more insight and understanding about themselves. Most importantly, I help them heal and grow. Life presents us with many challenges and we shouldn’t have to face them alone. It’s time for society to normalize and focus on the positive impact mental health can have on the world. .
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing telehealth services to individuals, couples, and families of all ages in California. I specialize in working with individuals that struggle with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and trauma. Using evidenced based approaches that include; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy(MBCT), Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, and Exposure Therapy. I work collaboratively with my clients so they can start living the life they want to be living.
I entered the mental health field because I love helping people and I have seen and personally experienced the positive effects of therapy. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice which helped influence my journey because through this I realized that I wanted to understand people more in depth. I believe that the more we can understand one another the more we can effectively help each other. My work started with me seeing inmates as people, as humans. Realizing we are all human at the end of day and instead of focusing on the negative and falling into a trap of self destruction, learning how to connect and be vulnerable with someone safe so you can heal and grow.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week long trip, we would start our day off with some blueberry donuts from M and M Donuts in Anaheim California followed by a day at Disneyland and California Adventure. I have heard Star Wars Galaxy Edge is a must see at Disneyland. The next day I would plan a trip to one of my favorite beaches, Topanga Beach. Take a drive through Topanga down to the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) for dinner at Dukes Restaurant that has an amazing ocean view. I recommend the crab cakes.
I would end the trip with a hike to the Hollywood sign to focus on our health, while also taking some Instagram worthy pictures.
Some other places in California that I recommend checking out include; Santa Monica Pier, The Getty Museum, The Magic Castle, The Comedy Store, Griffith Observatory, Rage Room, and the Warner Bros studio tour.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Myeisha Brooks, an inspiring Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that has helped provide mental health services to communities in Los Angeles California.
