We had the good fortune of connecting with Mahelia Santibanez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mahelia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’m a risk taker, I think that spending too much time in our comfort zone is way more dangerous than trying new things to grow or expand your business. And I do not want to focus only in our professional careers, I’m also talking about our personal life, I love to try and learn new things and spend time fulfilling my person, my mind, and my soul. When I make any decision that challenges me in different ways I become excited because at the end I know I will grow in that aspect. I invite you all to take as many risks as possible, you will realize that being in the comfort zone isn’t really that comfortable.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love what I do; I have a deep passion for my Permanent Make Up PMU career, and I have been evolving with the industry. In today’s globalized world, one of the best things we have at the tip of our fingers is access to connect with the best artists on earth, so I’m always comparing my work and strive to match their level of perfection. In or their to achieve it, I never hesitate to take any class for a new technique. Ever since I was in the skin care industry my clientes always knew that I would bring them the new active ingredients, the new facials, the new machine. With permanent make up it is not the exception. My customers consistently refer their friends and family with the confidence that I will perform the best procedure possible. Learning a new profession wasn’t easy, I had to practice for countless hours and long nights, Like Michaelangelo said at the tender age of 87 “Ancora Imparo”. (I’m still learning). I like that any person who approaches me as an Artist can trust that if I will suggest the right technique for their micropigmentation needs and the most adequate depending on their skin type, bone structure, and previous PMU work. Those are just a few of the aspects that define my work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
1.- Griffith Observatory 2.- Paddleboarding 3.- California Science Center 4.- The Getty Museum 5.- The Grove 6.- Lacma Museum 7.- Brea Tar Pits 8.- Venice Beach 9.- Santa Monica 10.- Walk Disney Concert Hall 11.- The Broad 12.- Restaurants I have so many spots as well as food trucks
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Totally agree, in our path there are many people that support us unconditionally. The first person to give a BIG thank you is my companion in life David Santibanez, who has always believed in me, supported me, he helps me, and patiently and gently shows me my mistakes, Andrea Amaral my beautiful millennial girl that improves all my ideas and who teaches me a whole lot about technology :-P. Thank you to my friends and colleagues from PhiAcademy, without their great training and unselfish wisdom sharing, I wouldn’t be where I am. I am deeply grateful to all of them and certain that without their support I couldn’t have made it this far.
