We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Cebrian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mary, how do you think about risk?
My life always has been and still is all about taking risks. And it has shaped me into who I am. It’s always scary to be out of the comfort zone, but also exciting. I can’t imagine where I would be today If I hadn’t taken any risks. Probably unhappy and unsatisfied! I believe taking risks helps you grow, to know yourself better, to find new things that you didn’t even know that you could or love to do, risking is discovering the unknown.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a professional dancer, choreographer and director. I just love creating. I love creating concept videos where I can mix my different forms of artistic expression. I love to make people feel, to listen to people’s stories and create from there. I consider myself a warrior and it’s something that makes me proud. I work really hard everyday to get to where I want to be, while staying true to myself. I think what sets me apart from others is simply that I am unique. Just like you are 🙂 Moving to a new country can feel like an exciting decision but can also be challenging. The language barrier doesn’t always allow you to be 100% yourself. You know, to flow and express your feelings. You find nice people along the way but also people with no patience or empathy to even try to understand what are you trying to say. I’ve experienced a lot of “if you don’t speak the language go back to your country” moments and it’s hurtful. It’s already hard enough to leave your home country and all your family behind. I really think that people should travel more, be curious about different cultures. You learn a lot from other people. Traveling is the best book you can read about life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely spend time at the beach! Venice is a really fun place to spend the day! Go to the museums, The Broad, LACMA, and the great Art Galleries in Downtown LA. The Grand Central Market is a great place to go and eat, you have really different types of food and I recommend Ramen Hood, so good! also I would stop at donut friend for sure! they have the best Vegan Donuts. California is the best for Road Trips, so a fun road trip to Josua Three, Sequoia, or any place around would definitely be on the list.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Itz: My family for their unconditional support. My first dance teacher Maria Jose Arlandis, to whom I’m forever thankful for showing me there was so much to learn out of my small town. Honesty I’m really thankful to every artist that has inspired me and keeps doing so throughout my life. There is so much talent out there, it’s crazy! So to all of the artists in the planet! keep creating, you never know who you are going to inspire just by sharing your art, trust me, you inspire more people than you think. mary cebrian:
