We had the good fortune of connecting with Maurice McClain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maurice, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I never wanted to work a 9-5 again in life and makes someone else’s dreams come true. I had entered a space where I felt so uncomfortable working a regular job I had to just quit!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart in my artistry is my story. We all have one but I’d like to think mine is fairly unique. Unknowingly growing up in a cult, being the son of a Pastor (separate from the cult), married at 18, and divorced by 25. I finally broke into my own at the age of 27 and never looked back. Although, it wasn’t easy I had to completely dispose of my old life and rebuild. I attracted like energy strangers that later became family and supported me better than the ones I had known my entire life. I want the world to know about my story that it doesn’t matter what life throws at you good or bad there is purpose. Those road blocks made to destroy you are meant to build you. Just keep going.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So depending on which best friend was coming to visit I first would take them to my favorite place in LA, Runyon Canyon. When I first moved here I’d go at least twice a week because it gave me peace hiking to view the city. Then of course you can’t come to LA without us having a beach day at Venice, Santa Monica, or Malibu! Now, we can’t forget about WEHO (West Hollywood) for drinks, the nightlife, and some amazing food!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank my close friends and family for always believing and supporting my success. I would like to especially thank my partner Adam for riding this crazy journey with me.
