We had the good fortune of connecting with Michaela P. Shelton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michaela P., do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is “No weapon formed against me shall prosper”. I love this quote, because regardless of the trials and tribulations in life, I always overcome them and continue to be great. When I get discouraged or frustrated, I remember this quote and it helps me calm down and keep pressing toward the mark.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of my digital series Reckless Behavior: The Series. I started filmmaking as an experiment to branch out from blogging and after releasing season one of my digital series, I received so much positive feedback, I decided to continue the journey by producing a second season. It was not easy. I am pretty much self taught and have had to overcome a lot of obstacles and mishaps. I overcame the challenges by having a plan B, consulting my mentors and doing additional research. The lessons I’ve learned are the importance of building a team, the importance of being organized and the importance of seeking mentorship. I want the world to know that I am just getting started and my main objective is to create unique, relatable content for millennials.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, I would take them to Oeste, my favorite place for brunch, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Carmen’s BBQ, RH Rooftop restaurant, Lake Merritt and to Pier 39.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to Imani Baylor, my prior business partner who has always believed in me and helped me get Reckless Behavior: The Series off the ground.
