We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Soe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Everything new in life is a risk. Think about it, when a child learns to crawl and then to walk, that child is taking a risk. If we don’t take risks, we never learn. That being the case, taking risks has been a very important role in my life. I’ve always been a pretty headstrong person in general. I always go all in when I do something new because if I don’t, then I don’t really ever feel fully invested.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think the thing I’m most proud of is the fact that I did not stop. Aseity is still a very new project, but I’m hoping with my perseverance that it will continue to grow into something unique. This path was not, and will never be easy. I’m a female in the metal music scene, and as a lot of females know, we do not get adequate professional respect. That actually goes for any male dominated profession. The other difficult part of this career is the fact that many people treat it as a hobby. No one takes musicians seriously, when in reality they should because art and music is what makes the world what it is today. Everything you see was designed by an artist, even the rectangular shaped grocery stores.

I’ve learned that no one will ever want this as badly as I do. Having a great team is like having a treasure chest full of gold and jewels, so when you find teammates that truly believe in you and work hard, hold on tightly to them.

I want the world to know that my brand, Aseity, is not just a music project. It’s an effort to create a community and brand for people from every background to come together. To know that even if you come “from nothing” that you will never be alone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I’ve just moved to North Carolina, so I still have a lot of areas to explore. For now, I’d probably take my best friend on a trip to the beach. Maybe we would find a river to canoe down as well, and of course we’d find as many restaurants, that serve crab legs, as possible! Pretty much anything involved with nature, and in the evenings we may go to a concert or two, or watch a movie.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, I could give credit to some close friends and family, but I won’t. The reason being is that not a single person made me who I am, the only one that deserves any credit for my life or anything I’ve done in life is God. I can’t even give myself any credit because without Him, I will always fail. God’s the one that gave me life and put people in my life. He has always had my back and gotten me through terrible experiences throughout my life. My career is now a product of my trust in Him.
