We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always had a love for makeup and the beauty industry, but I was so afraid at first. I was going to nursing school because I wanted to have job security. I found out that job security didn’t make me happy because I was miserable trying to pursue nursing. I dropped the nursing books and picked up the makeup brush and I never looked back. Makeup is a passion and I truly love doing it, it doesn’t feel like work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I absolutely love the soft glam look. I love enhancing a the features of a already beautiful woman and transform her into a Goddess. I took a chance moving from Alabama to California because I wanted to grow. I’ve taken classes and attended networking to grow my artistry. I still have a long way to go because I still have so much to learn. It’s been a long journey but I’m a big advocate of “slow and steady wins the race”. My main focus is continue to build quality clientele over quantity. My brand caters to the everyday woman who wants to feel like a queen for a day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m new to the city myself so I’m still learning the fun places to go.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank Ms. Joyce who is the Business Manager for Estée Lauder at Dillards Montgomery Alabama. She helped me start up my makeup kit, and she taught me so much about makeup application.
