We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Luna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It’s the music, it’s always been music. Music is the essence that I breathe. It’s the color in my vision. Singing, writing and enveloping myself in the music around me is what has kept me alive and going for as long as I can remember. It is the only thing I have ever been truly passionate about.
Being able to artistically share my experiences, the experience of others and stories through beautiful melodies is such a beautiful thing. It’s my memories, my therapy, my deepest love and my source of eternal happiness and it just feels… right.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s been 4 years since I dropped my last single and 6 years since my debut project: ‘Ascend-EP.’ I am super excited to finally be on the verge of a new era of music, a new era of Nathan Luna. It’s been a long time coming and I think this growth and self-realization is what will make this next chapter so unique.
I would have to say my biggest challenge in getting to this point was moving to LA at what I never could have imagined would become the forefront of a global pandemic. I came here in January of 2020 with all of these goals and aspirations for what I would do and how I would begin my journey and 2 months later the world just stopped… My time in the quarantine was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through. It was my breaking point.
However, despite that time being one of the deepest, darkest points in my life, I’m very grateful. The things I’ve overcome, the things I’ve endured and the way that I’ve flourished is so powerful and beautiful and my music has greatly benefitted as a result. The material I’ve written and been writing since then, including my latest single “Bubbles,” is some of the most true and authentic work I’ve ever done. I think people will really connect with this material and as an artist, that’s all you ever really want.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many things I love about LA. There is so much to do and see here and it never stops.
I think some of my favorite things to do is go to the movies, the nightclubs and definitely getting all dressed up to grab some drinks with my friends.
Dave’s Hot Chicken is one of the many wonders of LA that I am literally obsessed with. I love walking around the Americana in Glendale and going bar hopping afterwards in West Hollywood.
There’s also this really delicious sushi spot called Xevichez that always hits and the Century City mall is always a vibe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think there are a few people who have impacted and influenced me along my journey that would deserve a shoutout.
Thank you to my parents who have supported me from the very beginning. It wasn’t an easy journey, but thanks to them I’ve been able to learn the definition of true strength, dedication, love and perseverance. The things they’ve instilled in me is what has allowed me to be the artist and creative I am today.
Thank you to the amazing support system I’ve been lucky enough to have around me. To the family who’s always pushed me to be better and the friends that became my family that support and uplift me when I need it the most.
Lastly, thank you to Ariana Grande for being such an inspiration to me. Her music is what helped me realize how much I wanted to sing, how much I wanted to do this, to make music for the rest of my life. It’s what inspired me to chase my dreams and for that I’ll be forever grateful.
