We had the good fortune of connecting with Neil Schierholz PsyD and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Neil, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Angeles Psychology Group is a holistic practice, meaning we fundamentally view each person wholly and completely as a mind, body, and spirit, not just a collection of symptoms and not just a mind. My own healing and growth journey involved not just psychotherapy but also a wide variety of other healing experiences and esoteric journeys. How amazing it would be, I thought, if instead of having to cobble together these practitioners, healers, and experiences on my own they were part of a team, working together on my behalf, in concert with one another. This was the beginning of the vision for Angeles Psychology Group. I remember a patient, years later, who would regularly come to session having just left either their acupuncturist or perhaps their massage therapist or maybe they would be going to one or the other or some other healer after their appointment with me. Actually, they were not alone. It seemed a number of my patients engaged other healers as part of their path toward wellness. This resurrected my initial thinking and reminded me “wouldn’t it be so much easier for them if all of those healing services were under one roof, working together as a team, collaboratively?” So, we are continuing to create a team of mental health practitioners, massage therapists, acupuncturists, nutritionists, yoga practitioners, and many other types of healing practitioners to achieve just this. And, instead of them all working separately, our team shares information and works together to create a cohesive, comprehensive plan to achieve each person’s healing and wellness needs.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Angeles Psychology Group offers a new kind of wrap-around, concierge suite of therapies for those seeking real holistic healing and wellness. A key piece that sets us apart from others is our focus on treating the whole person, not just pieces and parts and symptoms. In addition to offering a coordinated suite of healing arts services, we also offer somatic psychotherapy, which brings the body into the psychotherapy process. This is a fully integrated and holistic approach that helps you to literally break through your armor, restore your natural flow of life energy, and regain the full expression of your true self including healthy, potent sexual functioning. We are known for working holistically and somatically, especially with those who are dissatisfied with talk therapy alone or have tried medication and it hasn’t worked or they’re sick of it. The approach may include hands-on work on the patient’s body armor to provide true, lasting, sustained freedom and liberation from emotional blockages. We also have an intense, abiding, fervent interest and commitment to cultural competence in all the ways it manifests. We’re especially focused on competence across the sexual spectrum as well as race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, and all the other diversity dimensions you could possibly imagine. Something else that dramatically sets us apart, as far as I can tell, from all other mental health practices is that we have a membership subscription. The concept is very simple: Members pay a flat fee that allows them to tailor their treatment sessions as needed. This eliminates the financial constraints and restrictions imposed by insurance companies including the number of visits allowed and length of each session. This was spawned, in part, when we began realizing that the current healthcare model really isn’t working. Psychotherapy is a labor-intensive process that insurance companies don’t like to pay for and tend to restrict resulting in poorer patient care and outcomes. We think this is just unacceptable. At Angeles Psychology Group, we want to give even more people, especially those in a middle-income bracket who tend to slip through the cracks, access to high-quality mental health treatment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA is filled with so many amazing and interesting and creative places and things that it’s hard to narrow it down. Off the top of my head I want to mention République, Angeles Psychology Group’s go-to restaurant to celebrate any employee’s success, the addition of a new employee, or simply to be together as a team. Paper or Plastik Cafe gets sweet and special mention as the unofficial home for business meetings outside of the office.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to our amazing team of healers at Angeles Psychology Group. Each one is an amazing, dedicated, special, extraordinary human being in their own unique way.
