We had the good fortune of connecting with Nelson Chan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nelson, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
First started with a dream, I think a lot of people including me when starting their own business begin with a dream and try to make it a reality. The dream is the motivation to get the thing started and keep things going and of course, there is fear. fear of failing and what if. The fear stops you from trying and moving forward. They both are a great thought. You just need to learn who to manage it.
What should our readers know about your business?
Nelson J is built by providing problem-solving services, products, and spaces. This unique business model has 3 sources of income. We make money from service, product, and booth rental. We are currently adding on business education to help people in our industry to grow. The main advantage of being a small business is to be able to customize our business to take care of each customer differently depending on their needs. We have been in business for over 15 years and it takes a ton of hard work and mistakes. Being a small business owner, I need to wear a lot of hats, and when it comes to facing challenges. I will stay very focus and come up with the best solution. Luckily, things always work out. The lessons I have learned building my business are sales and marketing are number one, everything else stays second. Another valuable lesson I have learned is not to use your emotion to make decisions. Ever since I figure these out. I became a much happier person. I believe by doing great business can teach people how to have a happier life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Be honest, I never spend a week long with any of my friends. I usually go with the flow. Whereever they like to go and I just show up. It is a lot easier and I don’t have to deal with what people like or don’t like. Recently, I discover Hungtington Beach which I love.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
