We had the good fortune of connecting with Neska Rose & Libi Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Neska and Libi, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?

Neska: A few years ago, if I had to perform at night, I would put so much pressure on myself throughout the day. But now, I’m learning to separate that.

I’m not saying “oh in the past I was this and now I have it figured out”, now I’m learning to be at ease throughout the day- “life mode”… and having a show at night is just part of my daily routine. Also, my music doesn’t feel like work, I don’t see myself as a singer/musician. I’m here to have fun and tell stories. So life is work and work is life. Wow so deep.

Libi: These days, I find balance to be easy in my life because I genuinely love what I do, to the point where it rarely feels like work. Rehearsing, playing, and writing music is a pastime to me as much as it is a “job”. Sometimes, however, I do have to remind myself that it’s okay to take breaks because it’s hard to stay creative when burnt out.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Neska: My brain.

Libi: Working on my craft definitely takes up the majority of my time. I go to acting classes, vocal lessons, and currently writing and developing two scripts with Neska. I also just released my poetry book, called “Limerence: poems of adolescence”. Check it out on Amazon hehe.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Neska: If I had a friend visit LA…. I would go on a plane with them and fly to NY. No, no…My favorite things to do in LA – see shows, there are so many great venues here. The Greek Theatre, The Largo… I wouldn’t mind seeing

Nick Kroll, Sarah Silverman, or Jeff Tweedy. I love Flappers…Or an improv show at The Groundlings.

Libi: LA is so big and I love all its different nooks. In particular, I would take them to hike at Griffith Park, thrift in Los Feliz, eat at Petit Trois, bowling at PINZ, and watch a comedy show at the Groundlings or Flappers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Neska: My Mom. Always.

Libi: My mom is my biggest source of inspiration. I was always creative, but the one who made me see it was her. She supported me with anything I ever wanted to do. As an artist, I’m heavily inspired by Leonard Cohen, for his music and poetry, as well as Kate Bush, and other honorable mentions are George Harrison, Nick Drake, Coldplay, and Patrick Watson.
