We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Mayfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, how do you think about risk?
For me risk taking coincides with Faith. My Faith has always been a part of my life and a huge factor in my decision making. I can admit that I used to be a person who liked to play it safe because it was comfortable and I knew what to expect. I graduated high school, went to college, then straight to the corporate world never really shaking anything up. I later realized all my safe picks weren’t allowing me to truly live life the way it was intended or allowing God to fully use me in an incredible way. Risk/faith moves can be scary but also exhilarating and life changing. You have no idea where you may land or what may happen but if you hold on something very beautiful can happen. The outcome of the risk/faith move may be even better than what you could have imagined and propel your life to new heights. Even if it doesn’t work out the way you intended you are still a better person with that much more wisdom and knowledge. I took a risk/faith move Feb 2018 and resigned from my amazing corporate job of almost 11 years to become a stay at home mom and homeschool. This later pushed me into my entrepreneurship journey which hasn’t been the easiest but definitely the most rewarding and I know without a doubt that I am living my purpose.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
ComayCreates began with a simple “Mommy, that’s you!!” from my oldest daughter. Let me explain. One day while reading with her, she pointed to the author in the back of the book and said Mommy, that’s you! I laughed and said aww thanks boo but that’s not me. She insisted that the author in the back of the book was me and after about the third or fourth time of me saying no honey it’s not, God spoke to me and said, “Yes it is. Listen to what your daughter is saying, this will be you! I want you to write Christian children’s books!” I literally said “What?!” outloud. From that point, I started writing my first book and ComayCreates was born! God said go, and I followed His instructions.

We are an ecommerce store offering Christian children’s books, activities, blogs and
other creative merchandise given to me by God and inspired by my daughters. I recently published my first book, titled ‘YAAAAAY! It’s Time For Church’ and launched my apparel line with my mantras to remind everyone to feel confident in creating and using their God given gifts. The launch of my first book coincided with nationwide shipping issues and delays due to the global pandemic but I was able to pivot my shipping plan and acquire the necessary supplies and shipping rates that did not negatively affect my profit margins.

My business is unique because it thrives off of my God given gifts and creativity and I know I am one of a kind. I want to offer a way to show and constantly remind others that they are also unique and one of a kind in their own way. I want children and adults to learn about themselves and God in a way that is fun and true to them. It doesn’t matter if you were raised in church, have never gone or read the Bible a day in your life. All that matters is that you are living and learning at your own pace to establish your own relationship and knowledge of Christ.

ComayCreates helps others remove the pressure and fear of creating what is passionate to them. Just like my daughter inspired me to share my story, ComayCreates will foster an environment where children and adults will feel free to create without the concerns of what others may say. My goal is to build a creative community circle that will serve as an outlet for anyone and my calling is to get the message out and I will do so in every creative way that God leads me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Alright a week long trip starting on a Sunday! I’ve talked about my faith throughout this interview so first we would have good ole Sunday Worship Service at the New Life Community Church then we would have definitely worked up an appetite so we would go to a yummy brunch over at Cafe Farm Station, while there we would take a stroll over to Erin’s Elderberries to try some of her homemade organic products.

On Monday we would grab a pastry and maybe a cup of coffee at Jirani’s then stroll around Historic Downtown Manassas to see all of the mom and pop shops like Popcorn Monkey and the Lemonade Bakery, and then finish off the day at Vera’s Ethiopian restaurant.

Tuesday we would go over to Uncle Ricos for Taco Tuesday then pop over to Cafe Pottery and the Splatter Paint Room to let out some of our creative juices.

Wednesday we would head to Mums Mums for some tasty thai then take in a show at the Hylton Arts Performing Center.

Thursday we would get some yummy vegan eats at Sweetzen Cafe then visit the ART factory and take in some art and maybe create some of our own.

Friday head over to 2 Silos for some hack n sack, hear some music and enjoy food at the attached restaurant Black sheep.

And finally on Saturday grab a bite at Public House and then indulge in a wine tasting at the Aroma Wine Tasting Room!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be where I am today without my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ guiding my every step! I am also married to the most supportive and loving husband in the entire world. He encourages, pushes, provides, inspires and loves me hard even when I fall short. The entrepreneur journey is not for the faint of heart so having someone who has your back all the way is invaluable. My daughters are my inspiration, they inspire me everyday to be a better me and keep pushing even when I feel I’m in over my head. They are my why and with God’s help, my husband and I will continue to strive everyday to provide a legacy for them. I believe having the foundation that my mother and father laid out for me has been key and instrumental in my success and allowing me to finally walk in my purpose and calling. I also have the most amazing boss of a little sister who helps manage all that comes along with owning your own business. I always say, it’s too bad everyone can’t have a little sister like mine, it can be annoying but oh so helpful LOL. I have a host of other family and friends who have prayed and provided meaningful insight to help get me where I am today.
