We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Parisi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has literally been, and all I do on a daily basis. I have had to follow my heart, I have had to tell some people no to one job, to take another, hoping that’s what the universe actually needed me to do, to better my future. I have had to try to do new things I have never done before, but, because I knew, someone else could be had, I went for it anyway. When I was 21, I took off in a car to Las Vegas, NV, after a bunch of my good friends moved there. I did this, because, I had secretly gotten into makeup school in LA and I didn’t want to tell my parents, and I figured coming to Vegas, would put me closer to LA. Then when I was 24, I took off to LA, and it was so scary for me. I had not a lot of money, but I knew I had to make it here. It was my destiny in my heart and in my soul. I took a risk and helped design, name, staff, and run a salon with my guy friends, which led to me meeting my mentor and changed my entire life. He so happen to live behind the salon, and when he found me, that’s when life changed. If I never took that risk, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I will rarely say no. I go so over the top for my clients, I bring myself to losing sleep, energy, and beyond. I will not stop until my idea of perfection is done. I also have an amazing connection with a lot of the people who hire me, because I am just me, and the same me, to everyone I meet. I do not let a budget, or how small or big a job is, to determine how well I am going to do, or how far I am going to go. You know that if you call me…its a WRAP. I am killing this job, making you happy, your client happy, and we are only getting better. I also am multi-fasceted. I can do so many different things. I can do hair, makeup, cut, color, wigs, nails, and wardrobe. I have made myself be needed in every way possible, and I provide a big list of things I CAN do to my resume for my clients. I also love what I do, maybe sometimes more than anything else. I truly do not feel my world would be complete without my career in this industry. You can see my passion, in the way I move my brush… the stress I can get from wanting everything perfect, to the smile on my face.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I truly love Redondo Beach Pier. It is so fun, in the fact that, it has an authentic, what you imagine LA to be vibe, great food, and the ocean view is amazing. I like to go to eat the shrimp and watch the water! I have met so many interesting people, dope celebrities, production associates, and the list goes on. I live for meeting the new faces in my life on an everyday basis. It truly is one of the most fun things about doing set. I have made friends who will be my friend for a lifetime through this industry. I am also entertained by these people and new people everyday! I think the designers, the entertainers, and just in general all the dope people who make and give LA its whole vibe are the coolest people to meet here.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate and SHOUTOUT my mentor Maxi. Maxi has been in this business for a very long time. He gave me a chance, when I never even knew the chance was possible. We have been working together, and friends for almost a decade. He pushed me to learn so many new talents, and he never missed out on a pep talk. Thank you for loving me.
