We had the good fortune of connecting with Nino Cutraro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nino, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factors I attribute to the success of my brand are passion and consistency. My passion to design clothing became an obsession. I genuinly love to do it, and that feeling makes every project feel like a whole new creative journey. I stay consistent on pushing myself to create everyday, but I never have to force myself to work. My passion drives my work ethic, and no matter how much I create, it still feel like its never enough.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At the root, my brand, De Florencio, is a open diary of my creative expression. My vision is to ultimately bridge the gap between all of my creative realms into one.
I grew up drumming in bands which taught me the fundamentals of music and was influenced by the rockstar lifestyle. As I got older, I pursued a degree in film which advanced my visual story telling and technical knowledge in a collaborative creative environment. When I decided to switch gears to designing, I had to start all over in a field I had no knowledge of, which was admittedly a steep learning curve, but I knew once I mastered the art of sewing, I would be unstoppable. I like to consider my aesthetic as “Rockstar Streetwear”, and having that background in music really shaped my vision for the brand and the target audience I want wearing my clothing. My degree in film is incredibly useful because it allows me to be proficient in multiple softwares needed for design, marketing and advertising.
There were many challenges along the way. I have sacrificed time, money, friendships, everything in order to follow my passion. It was all worth it and made me the designer I am today.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have always been there to support me in any endeavors I pursue, but when it comes to my fashion background, I really have to attribute a huge amount of credit to my girlfriend, Valerie. She has helped me with my brand since the beginning and was the one who really pushed me to continue when I was ready to give up. Her unconditional love and support really gave me the confidence I needed to see the big picture of my vision, and for that I will always be eternally grateful.
