We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Jacobus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Although my journey and career constantly presents new lessons and challenges, there is one lesson that I carry close to me throughout any situation, and that is to take everything one step at a time. We all have goals, and no matter how differently they may vary, thinking about our future tends to be stressful and a seemingly large undertaking. Focusing on what you can achieve in the present moment is not only rewarding, but is somewhere to focus all of your hard work and attention. Winning the small battles slowly chips away at the bigger ones, making it easier to achieve what you have planned for your future. When I started to incorporate this idea into my everyday dance training, the overall quality of my work improved, and so did my mood, confidence, and mental strength.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To me, ballet is one of the most unique art forms. Not only does it convey emotion, tell a story, and have a rich history, but also dancers are extremely disciplined athletes. Because of the complexity of the art, it takes time, dedication, and sacrifice. I have been training for almost ten years now and I am constantly fixing, correcting, and trying to perfect my technique. It has taught me how to overcome challenges, put things in perspective, and constantly shows me just how hard I can work and how hard I can push. The hard work is never easy, but very rewarding to not only me, but the people I get to perform for and share my love of ballet with! I have been trying to find new ways to bring ballet to more people over the pandemic in the form of social media, and am so pleased when people discover a new interest or passion through me. Ballet is for everyone, whether you are simply watching it or participating in the dancing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many fun places to visit in Los Angeles! I would definitely recommend visiting the iconic SoCal beaches and spending a day in the sun. Finding somewhere cute and trendy to eat near Santa Monica or Venice, and then maybe catch a movie! Also visit the Getty Center, or maybe the Broad Museum in Downtown LA! You can never run out of things to do in the city of angels. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
