We had the good fortune of connecting with Pure & Weary Katherine Biskupic & Leah Frires and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pure & Weary, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
K: We’re a comedy duo but also best friends so we always finish each other’s… L: Tuna Melts. Just kidding I’m lactose intolerant.
K: And I don’t like tuna. I microwaved it at work once and I was shunned forever.
L: As you can see, we stay on topic. But honestly, we found a good rhythm of getting work done. That’s not the hard part. We have trouble with the down time.
K: It’s hard not to pitch an idea when we’re out at a bar (in the before times) and she’s standing right next to me. Why write it down when I can say it out loud?
L: Our friends love it.
K: They don’t.
L: We’ve lost a lot of friends.
K: But we haven’t looked everywhere.
L: Our best balance comes with both a To-Do list and the promise of a celebration when the list is done.
K: Pitch the idea, write the script, post on TikTok, figure out what a TikTok is. Pop open the pinot noir.
L: Balance baby.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We’re a production company that started in live comedy shows and festivals. Once we moved to Los Angeles, we focused on writing and producing filmed comedy content. During the pandemic, we continued to make humorous online content through our own channels and for corporate companies. We can’t wait to return to the stage. Now more than ever, we need to laugh. So everyone get vaccinated so we can laugh together again!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the beforetimes….
The Baked Potato – hot jazz and a hot potato…what more do you need?
LACMA on Friday evenings for jazz on the lawn. More. Jazz.
The Blue Whale – a little, wait for it, jazz spot.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to thank Carol Burnett and Tuna Melts.
