Meet Rachel Arbuckle | Founder and CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Arbuckle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The inception of my business, 2000 Paces Photo Organizing, stemmed from a significant event in 2014. During that year, San Diego County faced a devastating series of wildfires, with the largest one originating from the mountain situated just behind my residence. The rapid spread of these fires left me with mere minutes to gather my belongings before evacuating.
In the midst of the chaotic situation, my instinctual response was to collect all my cherished photographs. However, I soon realized with a sense of panic that my precious memories were scattered throughout my home in various boxes, picture frames, and albums. Hastily, I grabbed whatever I could in that fleeting moment, prioritizing the safety of my family.
After enduring several days of stress and uncertainty, my family and I were fortunate enough to return home to the memories we had been compelled to abandon. Our residence had been spared by the fires. Tragically, many others in our community were not as fortunate, losing everything they held dear, including their irreplaceable memories.
This profound experience not only deepened my commitment to safeguarding my family’s memories but also ignited a strong conviction within me that this protection should be extended to others. This realization fueled the idea behind 2000 Paces Photo Organizing, which has now evolved into what it is today—a means of sharing this crucial preservation service with individuals and communities alike.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
Through the journey of creating and owning a photo organizing business, I have gained valuable insights and lessons. One crucial lesson I have learned is that challenges are inevitable when building a business, especially when there are no established blueprints to follow. However, I have come to realize the immense influence of mindset in navigating these challenges. By maintaining a focused mindset, centered around what truly matters, which is providing our clients with expert solutions to safeguard and enhance their collection of photos and videos, I have been able to persevere and move forward with determination.
This steadfast vision not only serves as a guiding force but also contributes to the organic arrival of success. I firmly believe that when we offer a vital service with genuine expertise and deliver exceptional results, success naturally follows. By prioritizing the needs of our clients and striving to future-proof their cherished memories, enabling easy access, sharing, and meaningful enjoyment, we have positioned ourselves as a trusted and indispensable resource in our industry.
In addition to the power of mindset and unwavering focus, I have also learned the importance of continuous learning and staying attuned to emerging trends and technologies. As the world of photography and digital media rapidly evolves, it is essential to adapt and embrace innovative solutions. By staying ahead of the curve, we can consistently provide our clients with cutting-edge services that meet their evolving needs and exceed their expectations.
Overall, the journey of creating and owning a photo organizing business has taught me the significance of mindset, the value of providing expert solutions, and the rewards that come from delivering genuine and exceptional service. These lessons continue to shape my approach and drive me forward in my mission to help individuals preserve and celebrate their most precious memories.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting San Diego for a week, I would ensure they have the best time ever by exploring a diverse range of experiences and attractions. Here’s a sample itinerary to showcase some of the most fun, interesting, and exciting aspects of San Diego:
Day 1: We would start by immersing ourselves in the cultural and natural beauty of Balboa Park. We would stroll through the enchanting gardens, admire the impressive architecture, and visit a few of the renowned museums, such as the San Diego Museum of Art or the Museum of Photographic Arts.
Day 2: To get a taste of the city’s history, we would head to Old Town. We would wander through the historic streets, exploring the preserved buildings and learning about San Diego’s rich heritage. Of course, we would also indulge in some delicious Mexican cuisine, savoring the flavors at one of the local eateries.
Day 3: A visit to the vibrant Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego would be on the agenda. We would spend the evening hopping between lively bars, enjoying the local nightlife scene. If there’s a Padres game happening at Petco Park, we would catch a baseball game and soak up the energetic atmosphere of this modern stadium.
Day 4: A day trip to Carlsbad would offer a change of scenery. We would explore the charming Carlsbad Village, strolling through its unique shops and boutiques. Afterward, we would head to Moonlight Beach to relax and soak up some sun. To satisfy our sweet tooth, we would end the day with a visit to Handel’s Ice Cream, indulging in their delectable flavors.
Day 5: We would embrace the vibrant atmosphere of the Farmer’s Market in Little Italy. Sampling fresh produce, local treats, and artisanal crafts would be a delightful experience. For lunch, we would head to one of Sam the Cooking Guy’s restaurants—Graze, Samburgers, or Not Not Tacos—for a delicious and innovative meal.

We would start by embarking on a scenic hike at Torrey Pines State Reserve, marveling at the stunning coastal views and unique flora. Afterward, we would head to La Jolla Cove for an unforgettable kayaking experience, getting up close with the marine life and exploring the fascinating sea caves. As the sun begins to set, we would indulge in an outstanding Italian dinner at Marisi, a restaurant that has been voted San Diego’s Best New Restaurant for 2023. With the exceptional guidance of the general manager, Steve, we would savor the flavors of their exquisite dishes, creating a memorable dining experience.
Day 7: To wrap up the week on a leisurely note, we would spend a day of golf at Maderas Golf Club in Poway. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes and rolling green fairways, we would enjoy a round of golf in a tranquil and picturesque setting. Afterward, we would head to Old Poway Park to unwind and relish the nostalgic charm of this historic park.
