We had the good fortune of connecting with RASHIDA SHEEDZ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RASHIDA SHEEDZ, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
How do I know whether to keep going or to give up? Lmao. I’m laughing because this is pretty simple for me: what does giving up get anyone? I’ve never and never will give up on myself. It’s not in my thought process. And when things get foggy just means it’s time to reset. You can press that reset on life button as many times as you’d like or need to. But giving up? Nah.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is I mean I’m always me. always me, my best most authentic self. Whether it be on social media or in person, I’m very consistent and accountable. I’m never switching up or bowing down I’m always very proud and kind and leading with love. I think maybe sometimes some may feel you can’t be those things and still be fun or funny or etc but it’s actually the opposite. I’m also very brilliant. And when people find out it’s pretty hilarious. Like “damn how she knows so much about Astronomy, Science, History, etc” and Again I don’t steer away from being a Space Nerd or Basketball is Life Geek or a Hip Hop Head; because why do I have to choose? Those all make Sheedz so Uniquely dope so it sets me apart and I just keep on moving.

I’ve had and finally beginning to breakthrough in big ways into the industry how I’ve always dreamed and WORKED, DOGGED WORK, HUSTLED (STILL HUSTLING) for but now I think what’s different is that how I move and navigate through things. I’m very strategic and wise when it comes to professional endeavors and my career. I don’t play so I don’t allow anyone else to play with what I have going on or am trying to build. None of it was / is easy. Especially as a black woman.

I am most excited about being one of the new writers /performers on “SHERMAN’S Showcase” Season 2 (Hulu, AMC/IFC) and Asst Writers for South Side (HBO MAX, Comedy Central) it was a very proud moments for me because 2020 already being what it was but even before that you just never know when it’s gonna be your time so you have to stay ready & I did. Even though all that I was / still enduring I never folded on myself and broke through. These being my first in room writing jobs I just still am so proud so it makes me work even harder because I know what I want and what I’m building. I’m not where I will be YET but I’m decent & striving and I smile and laugh a lot. That’s important.

I want the world to know that it’s ok to love things. That it’s ok to remember things you use to love. It’s ok to PLAY and not forget how to play. I love basketball so much I have a real ball rim in my crib and play inside the house and when safely friends come through we have a dunk contest. My girl Heidi Gardner and I had one on her IG live & it was so fun. It brought others joy. I love having freestyle contest & playing DJ with my homegirl Ego The Great randomly through the week because we both love hip hop so much and it brings joy. It lifts. I want the world to know it’s ok to change and grow, it’s ok to be a good person, it’s ok to take breaks, to go to Sequoia National Park by yourself (safely) and see trees bigger than anything you’ve ever seen to remind yourself to reach higher or that there are things bigger outside of what you‘ve always known. That it’s gonna be ok. I want the world to know that this Chicago Kid is just getting started.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA has def grown on me a bit so if and when I do have friends or fam visiting I def take them to 2 of my fav spots to dine with the most amazing views to watch the sky fall (sunsets) “HIGH” in Venice and “Cast Away” in Burbank. Would take them to my fav beach Manhattan Beach or somewhere in Malibu. I love the water. It’s peaceful and cleansing. And I mean the rest would be on them cause shidddddd this they trip.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am a very strong spiritual being as well as a very real person. I am also very proud to be black and come from such rich black love and community. So I always give credit to God, my ancestors, the black culture, and my good people. I know sometimes I see it can be deemed “uncool” or whatever to stray away from saying those things esp in LA but I embrace it, all of em. Boldly, Beautifully and Powerfully. Because why not? It’s what makes me great. Keeps me going. For example, my good friend Ego Nwodim got me one of my most favorite books now “The Four Agreements” for my birthday this past February and truly things like that, people like that who enhance and make you better while y’all lift one another. It’s all just dope and I will be so grateful for it all. So that’s where my dedication resides. Always in ALL WAYS. Until I get hitched or sum lol then I’ll have to give my man & kids some love 🙂
