We had the good fortune of connecting with Renee Watt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Renee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I was a teenager, I was a total punk rocker! The ideologies around that subculture don’t exactly align with large corporations or working for “the man.” That way of looking at the world has always stayed in my psyche, and independence has always been important to me as well. I never wanted to work my butt off to grow someone else’s dream, and that made the decision to build my own company up feel like second nature.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I come from a long line of intuitive women, though I am the first to make a profession of these gifts. In terms of services, I offer psychic, tarot, and astrology readings, as well as chakra balancing services, and I occasionally cast spells for my clients– though this service is on a case by case basis. Whenever I perform a reading, I’m searching for ways to improve upon my client’s current situation. Sometimes this means pointing out behavioral patterns that need breaking, or toxic people they should remove from their life. I always balance the bad with the good, but I’m not afraid to be real with my clients. If you’re being self-destructive, I will GENTLY call you out on it, but I will also help you find a solution to the issue. I also find that people in general are much more empathic, intuitive, or psychic than they give themselves credit for. If you’re not in control of your intuitive abilities, it can really mess things up for you, which is why I often advise people on how to strengthen and manage their gifts. I definitely built my career from rock bottom, starting about a year into my sobriety, hot on the heels of a divorce from my partner of ten years. I had to learn how to be an adult, because I never acted like one in my 20’s. Since I have overcome so much toxicity, it gives me a unique perspective, and I am definitely never judgmental, because I swam in darkness for so many years myself. I unequivocally believe that mindfulness, meditation, and witchcraft are the tools that got me out of that bad place, so I’m always super enthusiastic to share my secrets with others. In the last year or so, I began building a product line with crystals, spell kits, house cleansing kits, and so much more, because I believe they help empower people. I put a lot of thought and effort into these products, and I can’t wait to grow my online store. I also have a podcast called “The Glitter Cast” that explores the magick of our universe, and includes fun interviews with celebrities such as Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira), Dita Von Teese, and Bridget Marquardt. You can also find my monthly horoscopes on Shondaland.com and I also write for astrology.com.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I always give people a tour of the shop I read from in Burbank “The Crooked Path.” The location of the shop is so great, because it’s right on Magnolia street which is full of other amazing small businesses like “Unique Vintage,” and “Halloweentown.” I also love touring the “Huntington Gardens” and their rare book collection is absolutely outstanding. Before shut downs were enforced, I would always love spending time at “The Dresden Room,” and the shaved ice at “Oakobing” is not to be missed! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have helped me grow, and I feel lucky every day because of it. Sal Santoro and Popi Mavros who own “The Crooked Path” in Burbank have always given me a home base to work from, them and their shop are so important to me. When I first started learning astrology, my friend and mentor Lisa Stardust helped guide me so I could find my voice as an astrologer. Malorie and Jim Quinlan taught me everything I know about sound engineering and editing, so I could create my podcasts. Melissa St. Hilaire is a fellow psychic, and she’s always great to talk to when it comes to dealing with the responsibilities of this field, and it’s important to have friends who can relate to the work you do on a daily basis. Lastly, my partner deserves some credit, he is phenomenally supportive and is always there to advise me and help me grow my business.
