We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin McDonald and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robin, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
When I decided to start KINDri, the number one thing I was not going to negotiate was that every single product and its ingredients were 100% cruelty free. I knew that I could attain the same beautiful aromatics, the same efficacy and the same total beauty experience that comes with any high end skin care line but without animal tested components. It just took a lot of work! Since 2014, KINDri has been Leaping Bunny Certified ( the ultimate in cruelty free certification for personal care and household products) guaranteeing that no animal testing occurs in a lab or otherwise in our manufacturing process.. The idea of harming an animal on any level for the purpose of human vanity is abhorrent to me. There are so many cruelty free choices that can easily be made with all the information we have available to us right now. I encourage everyone, if you’re not doing it already, to expand your journey in this lifetime by making cruelty free and sustainable consumer decisions! Our future depends on it! KINDri promises to always be kind to the skin, kind to the earth and no animals get hurt!

I consider my formulations of KINDri as an art form since I am 100% hands on in the workshop/green lab creating beautiful natural skin care formulas. Developing KINDri products requires almost a culinary skill. The correct balance of aromas and components of high skin care performance is like whipping up the perfect cake batter. And, it is my favorite thing to do, thankfully! I came to Los Angeles to act and write and I’ve had a modicum of success in that industry. My day job was as a facialist and I remained one for almost thirty years. I can’t say that skin care has outlasted my acting and writing endeavors but has certainly taken over in priority. Ever since I was a kid, I was investing my allowance in beauty products. I started as a facialist in Los Angeles in 1986. Eventually, I knew I had to find a way to parlay my experience and passion into manufacturing my own skin care line. The hurdles have been plenty and plenty big! To this day I am sole proprietor and without any major outside investment. The stress was and sometimes still is, overwhelming. There were some pretty dark times to be sure. I pushed through by getting the emotional and mental support I needed. At 60, with auditions being scare, I was still doing facials and working odd jobs on the side to keep my inventory in tact. I’ve said this a million times, and yes it’s a cliche, but that’s because it’s true. “Never give up, because you are never too old!” Oh, the many times I’ve thrown my hands in the air and collapsed in hopelessness! Self discovery will save you. Dreams are real things!
