We had the good fortune of connecting with Rocio Colmenero-Monroy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rocio, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make was deciding to leave my very comfortable, convenientsteady paycheck job to launch my business and stay home with my youngest. This pivot pushed me outside of so many comfort zones. It was there where I realized so many people conform because of the fear of taking risks. I also saw how many people didn’t embrace their purpose because of fear. It was incredibly scary not clocking in but instead setting goals, expectations and boundaries for myself to succeed. It’s definitely been a game changer and somehow God has always had my back. Entrepreneurship isn’t for the faint of heart, you’ve got to have a deeply rooted spirit. You’ve got to understand the only one that may have your back is YOU. You’ve also got to make big decisions to help nurture your growth. and know when certain things or people aren’t going to help you on your journey to making an impact!

Launching my business was very scary and challenging. Primarily because our daily lives don’t stop. Bills keep rolling, debt can accumulate and things need to get done. It’s taken diligence, sacrifice and commitment to stay focused. It is hard, it doesn’t get easy, ever. You just get stronger and much more deeply rooted to the why and your purpose.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my business I design, strategize and streamline. As a hobby I paint. I’m a self-taught graphic designer and creative strategist. Essentially, I help business owners go from basic to stand out professional online by creating graphics and implementing an efficient flow for them and their customers. I work with systems like Honeybook, Convertkit, Calendly, Asana and Canva (but also a few more) to help business owners standout, stay organized and ultimately grow. What I’m most proud of are my logo designs and how I’ve helped many business owners show up confidently online with efficient systems and graphics. Logos are the staple of a business/brand and when I help create one, I know it’s going to help make an impact in any community. Being that I’m very creative and tech savvy, it’s really neat being able to take things that entreprenuers use in their business and repurpose content, make things work while also teaching them how to grow a social/online pressence.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh that’s easy, I’d say Mass Ave, Newfields and Broadripple. These 3 places are known for their unique charm and welcoming little shops and restaurants. We’d start off by having breakfast in Broadripple at this cute eclectic home named The 3 Sisters Cafe. We’d then stay for a bit in Broadripple and take a walk on the Monon Trail to site see and do a bit of shopping at culturally diverse shops. Where you can find unique boutiques, clothing stores, cards and gifts, plants, toys, t-shirts, dog treats, home décor and so much more! Some of our shops have been voted the BEST in Indianapolis! We’d then head over to Newfields Museum. Newfields is a place for nature and the arts with a relaxing and picturesque exterior and cultural activities week in and week out, Newfields makes for a beautiful area to stroll around and grab a quick lunch. We’d finish the day going to Mass Ave to have dinner and drinks. Mass Ave is known affectionately for its theaters, restaurants, art galleries, and eclectic, independent boutiques.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Let’s face it, the real one who owns this credit is my man Jesus, and no that’s not my husband. Jesus, Yahweh, Jireh, God. He found me very broken and lost about 6 years ago and since then has been molding my heart to pursue bigger and better things. My creativity was woke after years of being in hiding and my ambition launched when I realized I wasn’t going to grow much more at my, then, current employer. He has placed the right people in my path that have contributed to my success. I definitely believe we all have a responsibility to share our gifts with the world.

My clients have a huge role in my story. They are the ones who believe in me every single day and continue trusting me with the back end of their business.

I also want to Shout Out my mother. She was the primary one that helped spark creativity and entrepreneurship in me as a child. She always made sure I was a little extra when it came to mundane school projects. She taught me to love being unique and to stand out even in moments where conformity seemed easier. “Just do it,” she’d say when I was too scared to try or stand out. It’s definitely molded me into taking risks and ultimately helped me have that no quit attitude.

Lastly, I want to thank my husband and Jessica my bestfriend. We’ve been married 10 years, still can’t believe it! He’s helped, nurtured and pushed me at times I wanted to throw in the towel. My bestfriend Jessica because she’s always had words of wisdom to share in moments I needed it most. A few things I’ve learned are to lean closely to guidance and watch closely who you spend your time with.  I came to this country from Mexico when I was 2 years old. I became a Citizen of the USA at 32, I’m 34. I’ve encountered so much during my journey but embracing who I am and not being afraid to fail, has been the pivot of my growth and impact.
