We had the good fortune of connecting with Rogerio Maudonnet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rogerio, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have a strong connection with music since I was a kid. I’ve played the guitar in several bands, had my solo project, but by the time I’ve got a job in an audio production house, I realized that being a composer and music producer was my career.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love the fact that every piece of music tells a story, and it establishes a connection with the listener, creating a unique perspective. As a composer, it’s my job to create this connection. It can be done in different ways, through a film score, a song for an animation, a videogame soundtrack, or your own album. Of course, it’s not easy, it’s a craft that has to be learned and developed. I’m grateful that I had challenging projects in my career that shaped the way I write and produce music. The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that working in collaboration with other creatives (directors, filmmakers, film editors, game developers), helping them to tell their stories, makes you a better musician and composer.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are a musician visiting LA you should definitely check the famous venues like Whiskey a Go-Go, The Roxy Theater, the Baked Potato, and The Disney Concert Hall. LA has some great museums, like LACMA, Getty Center, and The Broad. If you like hiking, LA has some great parks and trails, like the Runyon Canyon, Temescal Canyon Park, and Griffith Park.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The one who deserves credit is my wife, Janaina, who was my girlfriend when I started as a composer. She always encouraged me to follow my dreams. Even when I have short deadlines and have work until late, she understands that’s part of the job. Her support is essential to my career.
