We had the good fortune of connecting with Ron Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ron, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
In simplest terms I believe the most important factor behind the growth I have had is the will to create an environment where the people I work with feel appreciated, they have fun, and they see potential for growth. I know I cannot do it all, but I do know that I can convince people that make up my weakness to partner up with me a create a team with higher potential than if we were on our own.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I use to work in an Architectural firm, the person that I learned from the most was the Accountant. He taught me that I must first be a businessman before I was an Architect. The reasoning behind this was that I had to fund my business in order to be able to finance my career. This lesson is the first thought that pops into my head before closing a deal or creating a new partnership. Being a businessman first is the logical side of me within my career. But what makes me proud of what I do in a daily basis is that I am proving to myself that I have the capabilities of becoming what I always thought I would become even if it is not the conventional way to go about my career. As a child, I always believed that the Architect was also the Engineer, Contractor, and the Designer. I have been able to gain an understanding of 2 out of the 3 fields. Within the next 3 years, I am pushing to have a degree in Structural Engineering and a license for it as well. I just want to prove to the 9-year-old me that he was right about who he said he would become.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The moment I would first pick up my friend we would start driving to El Tepeyac in East Los Angeles to get the Machaca Holandback burrito! He/she has to taste what a juicy machaca burrito with fresh guacamole in LA tastes like. After we grab a bite it’s off to the beaches. Picking which beach would be tough because they all have their own vibe. We can go to LA beaches like Santa Monica or the famous Venice Beach or we can take a little bit of a drive and head to Palos Verdes or Laguna. As long as we hit the beach it’ll be a good time. The other must for his/her visit is Disneyland! The food, the rides, and the shows make it the perfect place to create memories with a friend. It sounds cliche, but Disney really is that great!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One of the greatest influences in my career has been David Keeton of DC Keeton! David and I have been working together for a little over 2 years now. David helped me confirm that I had the potential I always thought I did. From the day I partnered up with him he always gave me my value as an advisor on all of our projects regardless of age. That trend continues to this day and that is why I esteem him as much as I do and I continue to see him as my mentor in the construction industry.
