We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Naht and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Omg, is this going to work out? What if we fail? Everything negative lol, I’m such a pessimist it’s annoying but I had to keep telling myself you have to make it work, you can do it. You are made for this. After our first drop sold out, I knew THIS WAS JUST THE BEGINNING!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run a small kid’s boutique online that was established in 2020. I feel like everyone in the kid’s vintage community runs their shops different & of course everyone has their own style & aesthetic when it comes to their page. Mine personally, I like to base my pieces on items I can see myself putting on my daughter Leila & everyone’s input on what they like or what they want to see more is very important to me so I communicate with them. My shop is me, it’s my personality, my style & I love sharing that with such amazing people. Was it easy starting off? Um no lol I mean what business really is? Our original plan didn’t work out so thrifting was actually a plan B. I set a goal for my sourcing throughout the week so I can be out 2/3 days out of the week but I’ll thrift like it’s the end of the world lol. I know what I’m looking for, I set a budget & so far it has worked. I think I’ve overcome the challenge of not being good enough? If that makes sense, in the beginning I talk about failing and I can confidently say that we are in a great place right now. I just want people to know that you can still love what you do, all the early mornings & late nights can still be worth it. This is my job & I wish I could have started this sooner.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Omg where would I even start? Being from South Central LA, our go to was always Downtown LA or Hollywood. Downtown LA, take an Uber smack dab in the middle each bar is .2 miles of each other. Picking an area to eat is so hard because we can literally eat anywhere. Sushi, Tenno in Chinatown — THE BEST. Tatsu Ramen on Melrose. Serving spoon in Inglewood. Wii Jammin’ on Pico!! Taco Mama on Vernon ( all the bad kids know about this 🤣) why did you guys ask me this lol it’s too many to choose from. I haven’t been out in Los Angeles to do much to be honest especially since Covid, but hiking was always something we did, Runyon Canyon, Griffith Park. The beaches was always a great getaway. The Broad Museum, Santa Monica / 3rd St. promenade. Hollywood Strip, there’s just so much to do & see in Los Angeles.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We definitely would not be here without all of our supporters. They are who made us US & has helped us with the growth tremendously! I do want to give a huge shoutout to my fiancé who has never doubted me during this venture & is our personal package delivery man (you da goat baby 😘). Also, a very special friend Andrea, who actually came up with the name. Forever grateful for her friendship & she has taught me so much running this business. Of course I cannot forget my family, who are forever going to root for us whether we fail or succeed. We are nothing without you guys ❤️
Mom & Dad, we miss & love you so much & We hope we’re making you proud!
