We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandy Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandy, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am a second-generation Vietnamese American born in San Jose, California! I was raised in a very traditional Vietnamese household, however, my parents were very inspired by the lives of celebrities and enrolled me in pageants at an early age. When taking part in pageants, I was exposed to wearing makeup, getting my hair done, and dressing up. I was always very intrigued by the process of putting on makeup and how amazingly passionate and artistic the MUAs were.
My mother is extremely nurturing and kind towards others and so my passion for taking care of others stemmed from that. As a child, I loved watching my mom style her hair and put on makeup so much that I even started asking if I could assist her! Luckily, I was gifted with a steady hand and took my first “client” at the age of 10. My aunt who was living with us at the time was getting ready for a wedding one day and I remember asking if I could help her get ready. She allowed me to put on red lipstick for her and tied her hair into a half-up/ half-down style. That’s when I knew the beauty industry was where I wanted to be.
Fast forward to 2012, I graduated high school and began my journey as a makeup artist. My ultimate goal was, and still is, to make people feel confident in their own skin while providing the best experience. I wanted to inspire others the way my very first makeup artist inspired me.
Due to the unfortunate and heartbreaking pandemic in 2020, I had a moment of silence in my career to reflect on my past work and areas of opportunities. Lashes are truly the make-it-or-break-it factor of a look and I realized that a lot of the more beautiful lashes were very expensive, just for 1 to 5 times of use! That’s when I decided to create beautiful and full lashes, at affordable price points, as a way to give back to other MUAs and faux eyelash lovers.
Creating Glam Haus Cosmetics has been an extremely exhilarating experience. The amount of support that I have been receiving is overwhelming! I love seeing people represent Glam Haus Cosmetics and personally DM me on Instagram to tell me how they cannot wear other lashes anymore. It truly makes my heart warm and happy to be able to share a piece of my passion with others, while helping them feel extra confident.
What should our readers know about your business?
Glam Haus Cosmetics’ mission is to inspire and empower everyone! Confidence is power and a pair of beautiful lashes is a major confidence booster!
My journey with building a business from the ground up has been a rollercoaster of a ride. I’ve learned to wear many hats – from being a web designer, managing business finances, packing and shipping products, being an admin, designing packaging, building a marketing plan, etc. However, I’m happy to have the opportunity to learn and understand every aspect of building a business.
I want the world to know that Glam Haus Cosmetics is dedicated to bringing accessible cosmetics for everyone, with the goal of disrupting the overly priced glamorous lashes in the industry. From my knowledge and experience of being a makeup artist, I hope to provide quality products with aesthetic packaging at affordable price points.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I honestly love North Hollywood and the culture there. I love that everyone is so friendly and there are so many creatives around, and every person you talk to is pursuing a different passion within the arts. Aesthetically, I love Beverly Hills. I love the sleek and luxurious vibe of the area!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The top 2 people that I give credit to are my parents. I grew up watching them work extremely hard, day in and day out, to provide for our family. They have instilled an entrepreneurial spirit in me, and the reason for what I do is to give back to them.
My closest friends and friends who are also entrepreneurs have also played a role in creating Glam Haus Cosmetics. They have supported me from product advice and suggestions, trying on the prototypes, social media management, product photography, sharing on social media platforms to just overall unconditional support; they have all played a huge role in my journey.
I also have to give credit to the beauty community. I am forever grateful to the fellow makeup artists and makeup mentors that I have worked with in the past; for being so generous with their tips and tricks. Without them, I would not be the makeup artist that I am today.
