We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanchoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanchoy, what’s your definition for success?
I believe that success is a state characterized by feelings of satisfaction and happiness. It is the point where one is doing what they love consistently and feeling an overall sense of joy in life. It’s not an end goal but more of a state of mind. When I hear the word success, I think of being at peace with myself, my work, and others.
Success is when you accomplish something that is important to you.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am finishing up a series of songs that I will be releasing in 2023 and preparing to perform live. I am so proud of my latest release, “Song for October”. This song was written during the pandemic and produced this year by Lucas Fackler from Idylmind. It represents my challenge to fit in LA and my struggle to reconnect with my music and family, who are now so far away. Hearing that people are emotionally connecting to the song, makes me happy.
Since I was a small child, I have had the urge to create beautiful things that are meaningful to me. Art helps me process my experiences and feelings. It connects me to the world and people around me. I remember hearing amazing songs on the radio or TV that drew me in, took over my senses, and then haunted me for days. They filled my body with this kind of electric sensation and the deep rooted desire to recreate those experiences with music of my own. I remember the beautiful Bengali songs my mother taught me. I got lost in the melodies, the sounds of the words, the way they felt coming from my body. I sang them at various cultural events, and I was humbled by the reactions of adults who told me that my performance had reconnected them to vivid memories of precious times past. All of this fuels my desire to create and perform.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would love to show friends the different landscapes in California. We would start by visiting various beaches, traveling along the PCH. A trip to Sequoia would be next, then off to Joshua tree and Palm Springs. Disneyland is also a must!
There are so many great food trucks in LA. It would be so much fun to go on a food truck tour with someone new to the city. For restaurants, I love Royal Curry Cafe in Noho for dinner and Sam Woo BBQ in Alhambra for lunch!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this Shoutout to my husband, Aaron. He is a constant source of love, support, and encouragement.
