We had the good fortune of connecting with Shay King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shay, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Growing up in a household with four other women and being the only one to suffer from an invincible illness called PCOS, is what helped me gain the idea for my business venture. At age 15, I was diagnosed; With No sense of direction, it became hard to manage. There was no explainable reasoning for what I was dealing with as an adolescent, which strongly affected me mentally, physically, and emotionally. With PCOS putting strains on a few of my relationships and well-being, I never spoke about it until today. Creating something that will last centuries and have a huge impact on human civilization has been my goal for a few years. In South Los Angeles, we rarely have resources that welcome the trauma and situations that we tend to go through, so with there being no other way to raise awareness within communities, I’ve decided to continue celebrating the ancient African technology, waist beads. Waist beads have helped me heal, become more aware of all changes happening with my body and how to deal with them accordingly. It’s also helped me elevate my mind to a higher sense of spirituality. Waistbeads have been around for centuries but we seem to forget why and where it matters. Allow me to remind you.

What differentiates my business from other businesses is my ability to truly connect with my customers on a personal level, and provide the exceptional, compassionate service they deserve. I am most proud of being able to serve my communities with purpose, on this journey I’ve learned that without a voice, there’s no purpose so today I scream, take on this journey with me. Raise Awareness!
