We had the good fortune of connecting with Shirley Dieu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shirley, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a supervised visitation monitor, I’ve always believed the work is about much more than simply supervising visits, it’s about helping children maintain safe, healthy connections with their parents during some of the most difficult times in a family’s life. Over the years, I built my business by focusing on professionalism, reliability, compassion, and creating a calm environment where families feel supported and respected.

Through my work, I also saw a major gap for parents who genuinely wanted to see their children but could not afford court-ordered monitored visitation services. That experience inspired me to found TSAP (Temporary Supervision Assistance Program), a nonprofit that helps qualifying families receive financial assistance for supervised visitation so children and parents are not separated simply because of financial hardship. Both my business and nonprofit work share the same goal, helping families maintain important parent-child relationships in a safe and positive way.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets my business apart is the level of real-life experience, professionalism, and compassion I bring to this work. I work closely with many professionals involved in the family court system, including judges, attorneys, minors’ counsel, therapists, and other court-related professionals. While we all serve different roles, there is often a team effort to protect the child’s emotional well-being.

Building my business was not easy; it took years of hard work, long hours, and earning trust one family at a time. I also take pride in helping train others entering the supervised visitation field, and in many ways we’ve learned from each other along the way.

Throughout my life and career, I have observed that children love both of their parents deeply, even amid conflict between their parents. Children should never feel caught in the middle or pressured to choose sides. Over the years, I have also experienced heartbreaking situations, including losing two clients to suicide, and those experiences deeply affected me and reinforced my awareness of the emotional damage that prolonged conflict, alienation, and family separation can have on both parents and children.

That understanding inspired me to create TSAP, a nonprofit that helps families who cannot afford supervised visitation services. I also hope to expand TSAP through awareness campaigns that help parents better understand the emotional impact that family conflict and alienation can have on children.

More than anything, I want people to know that my work truly comes from the heart and from a genuine desire to help children and families through difficult times

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Southern California for a week, I’d want them to experience a mix of the beaches, scenery, shopping, restaurants, and energy that make this area so special. We would probably spend time throughout Orange County, maybe take a day trip to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, and definitely spend a day at Disneyland Park since I love Disneyland.

A perfect day would start with breakfast near the ocean in Laguna Beach or Newport Beach, followed by a walk through art galleries and local shops. I love places that feel relaxed but still beautiful and inspiring. We would definitely spend a few evenings at Irvine Spectrum Center, Fashion Island, and South Coast Plaza because they really capture the Southern California lifestyle with great restaurants, shopping, and atmosphere.

WE would have a relaxing beach day, a beautiful dinner, a luxury shopping experience, or a laid-back coastal afternoon all within the same week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My drive for entering this field has always been my love for children and my concern for their emotional well-being. Through my work as a supervised visitation monitor, I see how deeply children can be affected during divorce and custody disputes. Sometimes parents are so hurt or overwhelmed that they lose sight of how much their children are suffering in the middle of it all.

I built my career through firsthand experience, trial and error, and a deep commitment to doing this work the right way. Over the years, I’ve also helped bring other people into the supervised visitation field and have trained and guided them along the way. In return, I’ve learned from them too. We are always learning together, because every family situation is different.

This work can be extremely challenging, but it has reinforced how important it is for children to feel safe, loved, and connected to both parents whenever possible. That passion continues to motivate me in my business and also inspired me to create TSAP, a nonprofit that helps families who cannot afford monitored visitation services.

I have written a small booklet, Supporting Families Through Monitored Parenting. That is free to hand out at the courts to parents who need a monitor and don’t know what to expect.
