We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Gully and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started making natural bath and products to help my Step Father with his skin issues that developed after taking Chemo and Radiation. He fingers and skin would be so dry they would start to split and bleed from the dryness. None of the products we used would work. I started to research different recipes to use that would help him. I initially started making body butters to help with his extra dry skin. I found several different ingredients that could be use. I ordered different things to work on my formula and would test it with him until I found one that worked. After helping him with his issues I thought about other Cancer Warriors that are experiencing the same issues and that became my target market. It made perfect sense since I had already started a non-profit (ALSIGE Foundation Inc) to provide services and resources to Veterans, Cancer Warriors and their Caregivers. I originally starting making products just to give to them to help with their skin issues. After I received so much great feedback, and others encouraging me to make it a business I finally decided to make it official.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

MCXX (Eleven Twenty) Brand is a natural based bath and body product-based business. Every product is handmade by me with love. I know a lot of people that sell bath and body products but they do it for profit not out of love. I love making my products, it is truly therapy for me. You know how you can tell someone that cooks with love? It is the same way with my products you can tell that they are made with love. When I started, I went through so many different products and formulas trying to find what really works. Finding the right ingredients was the biggest challenge. I am most proud of my ability to make a product that so many people love. Not only do I make products for my own business, I also manufacture for others that want to create their own brand but don’t have the time to go through the testing and development phase. I am where I am today because my friends and family would talk about my products and refer me to other people. It was definitely not easy staying motivated and focused especially when sales were slow. But because I was passionate about the products and loved what I was creating I kept going even it was just me making products for myself to use. I am extremely excited that I have been able to make quality products for women, men, babies, and dogs. I create unique fragrances and names. It is really interesting how I come up with a name once I smell a fragrance. It’s like it smells like it should be this and that becomes that name of that particular fragrance. I take pride in the fact that not only do I create the products, I create the labels, print the labels, package the product, label the product, and ship the product. Everything is truly handmade with love.

I want people to know that I extremely love what I do and want to make sure that they have a product that works for them which is why I also make and create custom products for people with specific skin conditions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I don’t think I have enough time and space lol. Living in Atlanta there is always something to. The Battery is one of my favorite places to visit especially during baseball season. You can eat, shop and party in the Battery. If you are lucky enough you can even catch a good concert at the Coca Cola Roxy. Sport and Social is awesome to watch any sporting event, themed parties and a good game of beer pong or skee ball.

I am a foodie so I love a good meal. For something you can enjoy and take home I love going to Big Dave’s Cheesesteak. The cheesesteak egg rolls are absolutely a party in your mouth along with their Mardi Gras wings. Sitting down to dine the list is long. For an expensive night out and a good steak American Cut is awesome and I love their rooftop bar. Roc South Cuisine is amazing for some good southern food. You can also try Tribeca in Buckhead which is nice as well. There are a ton of independent owned and black owned restaurants as well.

There are a ton of bars, hookah lounges and activities to do. I love all sorts of activities such as games. Some of my favorite places to visit are Top Golf, Puttshack, Round 1, Bowlero Bowling Alleys, Axe Throwing, and Go Karts.

If you like beer there are a ton of breweries to check out: Monday Night Brewery, Firemaker, Sweetwater and more. If you love Whiskey then ASW Distillery is a must visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give so much love and appreciation to my friends and family. They encourage me and support me so much. Without them I probably would have given up a long time ago. They believe in me, my products and really support what I do. They have been with me every step of the way. Listening to all my crazy ideas, testing products, giving honest and valuable feedback and cheering me along the entire way. I am extremely grateful to have such a supportive tribe in my life. They are the true meaning of It Takes A Village.
