Meet Soulful Sistas | Mental Health Advocates / Empowerment Group

We had the good fortune of connecting with Soulful Sistas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Soulful Sistas, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Soulful Sessions started in 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia. It began as a girls’ night filled with intentional conversations about life experiences and self-care. Soulful Sessions developed into a life group. Monthly sessions allowed us to process our emotions of trauma, grief, loss, forgiveness, and self-worth. Each of us have a background in social work and a commitment to self-care, healing and wellness. Our prayer is that Soulful Sessions transforms lives and reaches those who need healing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our personal stories and how we share them with eachother in order to grow, is what sets us apart. Every single month, for the past few years, we’ve met for a Soulful Session. The healing journey is continual and we honor that. In addition to our stories being unique, our commitment is too.
We decided to take vulnerability to another level as we stepped outside of our comfort zone to write Soulful Sessions. We did it with the hopes of empowering others, reassuring them that they’re not alone, and walking hand-in-hand as we turn our pain into resiliency and strength.
Writing Soulful Sessions was NOT easy but it is undoubtedly something we’re extremely proud of. The lessons we’ve learned are: Life is about experiencing hardships and being molded as you go through them. Don’t be afraid to dig up the dirt, process it, and heal from it. There is no other way to move forward until you address your deepest darkest secrets, your most painful memories, and your most fragile insecurities. It’s going to hurt before it feels better, but once it does, you become a whole new person. Figure out the lessons you’re supposed to learn so the pain won’t go in vain. Furthermore, apply those lessons in your future endeavors, relationships, etc. Be intentional, take the necessary strides to get it right, and remember — healing is a journey, not a destination.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
…Where do we begin for a nice enjoyable weekend in Atlanta? For brunch you must try the Peach Cobbler French Toast from Atlanta Breakfast Club. After brunch you are required to walk off all the delicious bread, butter, and bottomless mimosas at the Beltline. The beltline is an outdoor space, comprises 22 miles of unused railroad tracks circling the core of the city’s in-town neighborhoods. After a full day of food and walking, Puttshack provides just the right amount of entertainment to end the first night. Next on the weekend itinerary is a visit to The Battery (also called Truist Park, formerly Suntrust Park) which is more than a stadium. There are several bars and shops outside the gates, a farmer’s market on weekends, and other community events in its green space. You could spend most of the day eating, shopping and even bowling.
To continue the weekend depending on your preface and perspective of fun, a visit to Ponce City Market would allow you experience great food and roof top views.
Lastly, the Georgia Aquarium is a nice place to bring out the inner child. The dolphin show is unbelievable, and the exhibits are always full of life (aqua life that is). To end your trip, you must relax at Jeju Sauna for a couple of hours and head to the nearest seafood restaurant Spondfivits before your departure at Hartsfield Jackson Airport.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
.Shoutout to our families, friends, and others we interacted with throughout our upbringing. Regardless of whether those interactions and experiences were good or bad, they truly shaped and molded us into the women we are today. We are intentional about viewing our experiences in a meaningful way – even when it hurts. Life is hard and we’ve all been through different struggles. It’s scary, but it’s also beautiful because it’s meaningful. Our struggles are our testimonies, our truth, and could be the fuel to our fire
