We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steven, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal for me is leaving a mark.. what I mean by that is making memorable music and touring and performing for as many people I possibly can! Music is a universal language we all can agree on that and I want to make my mark with my own personal take on music.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well it’s not been easy and I’m sure for no one really it’s easy in the music business. Writing songs, singing, listening, and playing guitar is the fun part and yes at times difficult but the more difficult part is the money, time, and overall staying mentally well. I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way and the number one lesson I’ve learned so far is that you need an open mind and an open heart. You need good genuine people around you and keep your head up but at the same time go through all the emotions that come at you. I’m proud of all the music I’ve put out and you can check it all out on my website www.steventaylorblues.com and all streaming platforms etc etc! I’m proud of how far along I’ve come with my instrument and my writing! My story is a bit of a mess with having two successful musician fathers it’s a lot to live up to but I sure am blessed in a lot of ways too. It wasn’t easy by any means and I’ve worked my ass off to get where I am and I’m still not where I want to be.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I definitely hit the Santa Monica pier and amoeba records haha! Maybe that’s basic but hey it’s my go to.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My two main shoutouts are my step father Kim Wilson (lead singer of the Fabulous Thunderbirds) & my father Greg “fingers” Taylor formerly of the Jimmy Buffet Coral Reefer Band. Both extremely talented individuals and amazing musicians! I owe a lot to them!
