We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Leday and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, what role has risk played in your life or career?
If I didn’t take any risks I wouldn’t be doing what I love. Taking risks is parallel to having faith. Bet on yourself! If you stay in your comfort zone you’ll always wonder what if. I never want to live in regret. In my last 6 months of high school I changed my entire career plan. I was going to pursue a degree in medicine but then I saw the school of my dreams, Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. If I didn’t go for it, today I’d be unhappy and struggling to get a degree I wasn’t passionate about all to fund my creative endeavors. In order to create the life you want you have to take risks!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have 3 different businesses on the rise. I have Link Et Cetera jewelry & accessories, a curated series of pop up events, know as The Sip & Shop, and my newest baby New Label Branding & Creative Consulting. Link Et Cetera was started as my prototype business to show people how I build a brand from start to finish. We offer staple jewelry and accessory pieces that catch the eye and make a statement with any look! The Sip & Shop was started to highlight up and coming businesses, expand their networks, while also selling and marketing their products and services in a nice ambiance. Finally, New Label is the mecca for all your business needs and we want to market it as something attainable and affordable for all entrepreneurs! This is my biggest goal and I’m stepping out on faith to make it happen! The website will be launched by August 2021! Need your logo or packaging done? Want to start a fashion or home goods line? We’re the ones you call!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For starters we brunch! You have to get the day started on a good note with some good food and/or mimosas. I spent a lot of time in DTLA. Some of my favorite spots are Blu Jam Cafe and Perch Rooftop Restaurant & Bar. Then we’d go ride scooters through the downtown streets and explore all the magic it has to offer. Such as, the Broad Museum, the Last Bookstore, and of course the infamous Fashion District. Later in the evening we’d go to Hyde Sunset for dinner then end the night enjoying the good vibes of their night club.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I give thanks to my high school business management teacher, Ms. Andret Rayford. She helped me expand my mind in so many ways in just one school year and she was the one who introduced me to The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. I also give all the credit to my family of entrepreneurs. My mother, Sakhara Lowery, stepfather, Ernest Lowery, and both aunts, Lauren Carmon & Brooke Lancelin all have had their own businesses for years and given me different insights on what it takes to thrive as an entrepreneur in different fields.
