We had the good fortune of connecting with Sylvia V. Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sylvia, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As the Founder and CEO of A Seat at Sylvia’s Table; I have a passion to assist women find, foster, and follow their creativity to lead them to their destiny. I sincerely believe in the points of light construct to illuminating the world for good. When we see better, we do better. Each woman that I help to discover more of herself has more of herself to give. Each woman I help find peace with how and who she is, is a woman that can be a force of nature in her own environment. Change is an individual and very personal journey, that when embraced and shared can change the world. The key is to embrace change that is inwardly true to your better nature and outwardly impactful for good.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Through faith-based guidance, supportive sisterhood and extraordinary experiences, I strive to help women make the monumental move from existing to living. A Seat at Sylvia’s Table was created as a channel for my quest and spiritual responsibility to help mankind. This organization gives me additional pathways beyond my being a minister to mentor and uplift women. I’ve spent my entire life in the church serving God, but it took my own transformational journey through loss, heartache and healing to realize the purpose He had for me. I was already in my 50s when I finally came into my full power and decided to stop fading into the background of my own life. In the process, I changed my body, my environment, my habits and most importantly, my mindset. I am proud of expanding the scope of my ministry to a non profit organization that I can construct around my brand and priorities. A Seat at Sylvia’s Table is a safe and intimate space for women to gather and address the myriad of issues they face on a daily basis. This organization helps women like me, Sisterqueens-put themselves front and center in their own lives so that they can take full advantage of God’s plan for them. I start them on this journey with simple steps. For example, I am in the midst of a 6 week coaching session with a small group of women entitled, Keeping Your Sanity When Nothing Makes Sense. I fuse elements of my personal life into my coaching and engagement with women I mentor. Lifestyle, health, environment, relationship, cooking, and entertaining tips help to reach women in more ways than just academic or spiritual means.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a water sign…so I would take them to the various spots in L.A. that are on the water. We would start in Marina del Rey and check into a wonderful hotel there I frequent when I need a Staycation. Marina del Rey offers great views of water, water related activities, eclectic shopping opportunities, and amazing dining. After a few days there, I would then go further south to the Redondo Beach area for a Southern Cal entertainment vibe. There are a multitude of venues that offer great regional theater, night spots, and outdoor activities. Heading west we would spend time visiting the great museums along museum row. We would then embrace the Rodeo Drive shopping experience. We would end the week by going to Vibratto a wonderful dining/music venue that provides live music with an extensive menu featuring California Cuisine.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my Shoutout to my mother, Mrs. Pearl Reid. I watched her create warm, loving, and elegant environments for her husband and children in times of want and plenty. It was from her I learned that the first step in elegant living is to be comfortable in your skin and to know who you are. She exuded hospitality and generosity in her roles as Pastor’s wife and “adoptive” Mom to hundreds of children, teens, young adults and then grandchildren. Her manner belied a core of steel that enabled her to navigate numerous challenges with faith, hope, and grace. She is my road map to living an elegant and meaningful life.
