We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamika Wagner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamika, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I think the most important thing I’ve done as a parent is to teach my kids their financial independence and to follow their dreams. For much of my life I struggled as a single mother raising them and the biggest challenge for me was the lack of adequate compensation and time off. I never wanted my kids to experience those same challenges and have to sacrifice their time with family in exchange for minimum pay, its time I’ll never get back. Being financially independent has allowed me to choose how much time I spend working weekly/daily and the ability to stop when i know I need some time to decompress. I definitely feel like that biggest gift I could ever give and leave them is the knowledge of how to run their own businesses and lives.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tamika Boyce is the Owner/CEO of Canna-Xpress LLC, the first vertically integrated, minority/black -woman owned, licensed Social Equity Cannabis business in the City of Long Beach CA. Tamika is a native of Long Beach CA, single mother of 4 and the founder & program director of a non-profit organization which currently provides temporary emergency shelter for homeless families, throughout the South Los Angeles areas.
Canna-Xpress is the first minority, woman owned, 100% family owned and operated vertically integrated ;licensed social equity cannabis microbusiness in the city of Long Beach CA. We current have a 6800 sqft. Facility in Long Beach where we currently operate our distribution, manufacturing and cultivation business. We’ve created our own brand of High Luxury Cannabis Flower & Infused Pre Rolls, currently for sale in dispensaries in Long Beach, Los Angeles and Palm Desert.
Tamika’s experience in the Cannabis Industry began in 2014 when her mother became ill and started using cannabis as prescribed by her physician. It was during that time that the family’s struggle of caring for her mother who would need a liver transplant, became homeless. Like many other families experiencing homelessness Tamika worked hard to regain her footing and secure permanent housing. It was from that experience that Tamika formed the non profit, Connections for Women as a way to give back and help others experiencing homelessness as she and her family did. While her mother recovered from the transplant,Tamika connected with other patients and learned the benefits of CBD & THC products. It was through the forming of a medical collective and this experience that Canna-Xpress was first formed, later expanding into a successful cannabis delivery service which provided cannabis products to patients 24 hours a day!
In addition to running a successful licensed cannabis business, Tamika and her family currently operate 12 homeless shelters throughout south LA helping other families successfully transition back into permanent housing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting from out of town the first place I would take them would be to see the the beach and the California coastline. I believe Southern California has the best weather and beaches in the country. I’d give them a tour of Long Beach and point out its diverse and robust community from the Pike to Lincoln Park, to the East Side where Snoop Dogg grew up and MORE! We’d go for drinks at one of the many eateries on the water like Parker’s Lighthouse, The Reef or Ballast Point. Lastly I’d have to make sure get in a trip to Disneyland, one of my favorite places.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to Elliot Lewis & his entire Catalyst team for the opportunities and support they have provided us. In an industry that is so competitive right now, Elliot and his team really opened their doors to us and provided us an opportunity and outlet to connect directly with his customers. He believes in what we are doing, respects our efforts and journey entering into the business.
