We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatyana Sapp and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatyana, how does your business help the community?
One of my current hobbies is creating content for Instagram and YouTube about self care and sustainable living practices. To help make my business fall in line with my values, I transitioned from acrylic yarn, which is a form of plastic, to100% cotton yarn that is Oeko-Tex certified (which means the company was tested to ensure no harmful chemicals are used to create the yarn). I also use recyclable paper mailers & on the rare orders I used plastic packaging I use 100% recycled and recyclable bags. I also send my yarn scraps to a textile recycling company to be repurposed and used for car liner filling.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In any creative process it’s easy to compare yourself to others who are in the same field. I feel everything I do as a form of work has a beautiful contrast, which makes it easier to flow between each because it forces me to change my mindset and perspective. I work full time in mortgage finance along with running my crochet business in the evenings, and on weekends I create content for brands & social media. I feel a big challenge with starting a business is remaining consistent, the best way to keep your creative mind in good health is to ensure it doesn’t get overstressed and overworked, having other hobbies and forms of income help give me that mental break at times.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My absolute favorite taco/burrito spot Tacos El Unico. I’m also a big beach lover, Santa Monica pier is a go-to.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Every friend and family member who supported my crochet art and continued to ask me to make them pieces are to thank for my business.
