We had the good fortune of connecting with Temeka Stanley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Temeka, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
You know I believe it is not about giving up or to keep going, it is about the choice you make right now and the ripple effect it has. If I focus on whether or not to keep going, I feel like I am trying to control the outcomes; yet, remaining present and surrender to the process.

In the each moment, we have a decision to make – a decision that keeps us in peace, in balance and in the flow of life. Or a decision that has us anxious, forcing, and escaping our way out of life.

I say focus on the choice you make right now and don’t worry what the outcomes of it is.

This way, you know that every choice was made with full intention and the results from that decision will be a magical unfolding even if it looks like, “Giving up,” or “Remaining persistent,” according to what those terms mean in a modern sense.

Sometimes making the decision to do nothing, appears as if you are giving up. In actuality, you are merely learning the art of stillness where the answers really live. The greatest teachers of all time throughout human history know the power of being still and doing nothing. For some especially in the world we live in today, appears to be lazy, incompetent, not keeping up with the times and not “HUNGRY” enough for success and what you are going after. Being okay to do nothing can be the very thing this world needs at the time — and you are the trailblazer to master it in the 24/7 always on world we live now a days.

So again – the question is very admirable; yet, I challenge we change our paradigm.

Let us not ponder on whether or not we are giving up.

Let us consider the choice of now and simply master being present in that choice, knowing as we surrender to a mindful decision – there is always something greater that moves us forward.

What should our readers know about your business?
Effective New Creative Solutions started as a music publishing firm. At the time of starting, it was all about getting arms around music publishing for indie artists.

Over time, I realized how important it was for artists and professionals at large understood the business development, and marketing aspects of their organizations and initiatives.

What I found is that business and marketing development with a framework of ideation, brainstorm facilitation and mindfulness training was the missing elements in a lot of organizations especially startup companies.

As a result, Effective New Creative Solutions transformed itself into a solutions oriented companies helping individuals, executive leaders and organizations come up with answers through our own unique – creative business methodologies.

We are the “juicers” to apples. We help flesh them out so people can drink the juice not the apple.

We want people to understand that the answers are always there, but in a world full of information overload we haven’t mastered the time to get with ourselves and our teams to cultivate new ideas and strategies. The belief system is that when a mind is at ease, innovation is a breeze! We help cultivate an environment with tools to bring forth ease in the mind where innovation is soon to rollout!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Memphis is the home of soul! And that means soul in everything – the food, the music, the people, and places.

My favorite place to go is the Benjamin Hooks Library named after the famous Civil Rights Leader Benjamin Hooks.

You can roll your way through the myriad of books, articles, magazines and also get a glimpse of some amazing architecture in the city. It is a super cool place for some goods reads!

Next you have to visit Overton Park, one of the main parks here in Memphis. You can stroll through some of the historic homes near by, check out the art museum, sit near the pond towards the end of the park, and see the beautiful floral arrangements and trees in near the top of the park. You may even here a live concert in the summer where they have a large outdoor concert theater called, Levitt Shell, right in the heart of the park. And if you have a dog, bring them along because Overton has two dog parks – one for large dogs and another for small dogs.

Thereafter, I am sure you will work up an appetite and you have a few options of “Soul” Good Food near Midtown:

For Vegan lovers, you have to check Imagine Vegan – it is comfort food at its best without compromising on healthy alternatives!

For Asian cuisine, the best spot to go to is Mulan Bistro – imagine having shrimp fried rice with a grilled modern flair. It is AMAZING food!

For a home cooked meal of fried chicken and macaroni – you cannot go wrong with Hattie B’s Nashville Chicken – there is NO Chicken spot that rivals this one.

For fish seafood – Soul Fish Cafe will never disappoint!

And lastly, you can’t Memphis without talking about the real deal meal of meals – BBQ! Because there is so many, I will offer up my top favorite BBQ restaurants in the area:

1. One and Only
2. A&R BBQ
3. Memphis Barbecue Company (about 10 minutes out the city in Southaven, MS)

To finish of your time, you’ve got head downtown to visit the National Civil Rights Museum and smooth out your time on Beale Street for music and the icing on the cake for a city made on soul!
