We had the good fortune of connecting with The Blue Dolphins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Blue Dolphins, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?

“Follow your bliss”- Joseph Campbell.
This phrase is an absolutely perfect compass for life. Find something you feel good about and keep doing it. It will lead you on a terrific adventure.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It really requires great tenacity. I’m proud of the fact we are a team of two and recently we have had some attention alongside artists that have whole teams and labels behind them – that feels really good.

It isn’t easy at all, you have to enjoy challenge because it’s constant whether you are reaching out to a Dj to see if you fit on their show, pitching a song to a music supervisor, or facing a blank piece of paper you must brace yourself for rejection at every turn and keep going. However this is also what is so rewarding about being an artist because it is such a vital experience to face ones fears.

I think what our Dolphins Tribe likes about us is that individually and as a couple we really are on a great adventure, we are just being ourselves and pushing ourselves to do our very best in all that we do. As songwriters, in recordings and when we play live.

Sound wise we are influenced by the sognwriters of the 60’s and 70’s so there is that optimism and hope but we are here in 2021. Our songs can sound familiar and new at the same time.

The top lessons are pay attention and enjoy the journey – we can get so tied up in anxiety about things and how it’s all going to turn out. But its much better to stay in the process and out of the results. The other lesson is give equal amounts of energy to being creative as you do to taking care of business.

We’d like people to know that we come from a place of heart over head.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First thing we would do is take them on a good hike on the Back Bone Trail in the Santa Monica Mountains, there are many trail heads to choose from, Corral Canyon, Stunt Road, Las Virgenes Road, some more rigorous that others. The views are spectacular and its impossible not to fall in love with the natural beauty of California.

Then we would take them to Zuma Beach to watch the dolphins and seals and feel the massive current of the Pacific Ocean.

On the weekend an outdoor music festival in Topanga Canyon.

A drive to Hollywood, first stop look at the city from Grand View at the top of Laurel Cyn and see the size of this metropolis, it is absolutely breath taking.

We’d take them to The Cinema Bar in Culver City to experience the Los Angeles Americana scene, to Mr. Musichead Gallery on Sunset Blvd to look at amazing photographs of music history, downtown to MOCA ( Museum of Contemporary Art).

To Paramahansa Yogananda’s beautiful Lake Shrine on Sunset in the Palisades to experience a slice of LA’s open minded all embracing spiritual side. Followed by a smoothie and a salad at Juicy Ladies afterwards, which is just around the corner.

To eat some great great Mexican food from Carnes Asadas Pancho Lopez, a burger at Mel’s Drive-In and on the finale night, somewhere totally Hollywood, totally glamorous like Asia De Cuba, to dress up and feel what its like to be right in the center of Hollywood.

Ok that would be a good week! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people. Firstly the people that show up at our live concerts and during Covid, our live stream concerts online. Our creative friends in Los Angeles that collaborate on video’s, photo’s, recordings. It’s such a rich creative community in Los Angeles, we can make something really great happen in 24 hours. Then there’s Mum & Dad …oh sorry you said one person! We are going to give our shout out to DJ Bob Goodman on 88.5 fm. Bob really made our 2020 by playing our songs regularly on his show ‘Whole ‘Nuther Thing’ and now in 2021.
