We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiara Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always had a interest in event planning, I just never took it serious. When it came time for a event I’m the person everyone would call to help them. I just had an eye for it because growing up my family would always have parties. I have these motivational talks with my uncle and he tells me you have to invest in things that’s going to make you more money. I always knew I wanted to invest in something I just didn’t know what. One day I was on Instagram just strolling through my feed and pictures of someone else’s event popped up, I thought maybe I should start my business. Of course I was nervous because it’s a lot of time and effort to start your own business. But I just knew as long as I stay dedicated everything will turn out fine.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Starting a business is very scary but I’m excited to see how it’s going to grow. My best friend brought me event planner book when I first announced I was starting my business. Inside the book it has a section where you write your goals for the year. I wrote to plan four events, I’ve already planned five and have three more coming up. This is all less than a year, to some that might not be a lot but for me it’s a big accomplishment. It’s definitely not easy I’m also in the medical field and that alone is draining especially during the pandemic. So working a full time job and planning events could get overwhelming at time, but at the end of the day I love what I do. Although I have to continue telling myself it’s okay to ask for help, that’s the biggest lesson I’m trying to teach myself that I can’t do it all.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely for drinks Cabo Cantina! Food wise I would say Yang Chow or El Coyote

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s so many people that I could dedicate this to honestly. I receive so much love and support! But if I had to pick one person it would be my Dad, unfortunately he’s not here on earth anymore. But he was literally my biggest fan. No one could tell him anything about his baby. He’s the reason that I keep going, I’m constantly saying to myself I have to make him proud. He would always have these conversations with me and tell me how hard I’ll have to work to get what I want. As a teenager hearing those conversations I would be annoyed like “okay Dad I get it”. But now that I can’t get those conversation with him, I use those at the time annoying conversations to now motivate me to keep grinding to get what I want. So for that I’m forever grateful for him and those teaching moments.
