We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiera Lavin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiera, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thoughts process behind starting my own business was similar to many; I wanted the freedom to do what I wanted on my own time. I was always a designer but when I became pregnant with my first son, I knew I needed a change that would allot me the freedom I truly desired. I have never, ever, ever, liked working for “The Man”, although I’ve always kept a “9-5” job. Being my own boss was always a desire and dream.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a Brand Designer I love to help my clients get results from their dynamic designs! We start with strategy and get aligned with the brands core values then from there its an educated design process with proven growth results for my clients to pivot. This process has taken me a few years to tailor and perfect, but it gives my clients their moneys worth. I love brand design from start to finish, in what I call Branding Bundles; usually including logo design, social media design, web design, and a complete brand suite upon completion. This leaves my clients with a winning package.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many new places to try and explore in the these days; speakeasy’s, tons of Black Owned restaurants, new attractions, and more! If this was a summer in the D we’d catch a good lunch at Mad Nice and then explore the wonder of downtown, then grab drinks at Pure Vin. Dinner would be later at Soul on Ice. The next day we’d have fun at Detroit Yard/Axe for food fun and drinks and hit one of the few rooftop bars to close the night. On Sunday we’d brunch and visit The Schvitz to end the weekend!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, nobody has helped me get to where I have, not 1 individual person. I consider myself an Underdog. I sometimes say what others think and I do what works best for myself and my business. If I was to dedicate my success to it would be my clientele. Whether they’ve found me on Google or from word of mouth, each client helps me grow and purpose my continued passion in design.
