Meet Vanessa Ramirez: Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor, Fitness Nutrition Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Seeing clients do things they never thought they could. One of my clients is 70 years old and is killing it and is able to do burpees! I love to see it, to show that age is just a mental barrier you place upon yourself. It’s so satisfying to see people you train defy the odds and continue to improve. It shows me that with my planning and their consistency, anything is possible!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. I went to college with the intention of studying physical therapy and wanted to take a gap year. During that gap year, I started teaching and training and fell in love with my job. It wasn’t easy, but it’s the same as today, I’m constantly learning. The biggest challenge has become COVID. With COVID, no one wants to come to the gym to workout which I completely understand. But then I adapted and started teaching online classes which opened a whole new window because now I can train people that don’t even live in the same state as me. I love what I do and I think that’s the best part of it all.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them on some hikes that are around the city because that is one of my favorite things to do. Afterwards we can go to one of the many vegan restaurants for a bite to eat later. There’s also many places that you can ride your bike in the city which is really convenient because you can see more of the city at a faster rate compared to walking.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s a bunch of little things that added up to something big. It’s a couple books I read and seeing my competition and peers constantly succeeding that just motivates you. Seeing their mindset inspires you to keep pushing forward and keep trying.
