We had the good fortune of connecting with Vedant Mugalikar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vedant, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk, for me, works like a navigator it guides me toward my destination with no set path. It changes as the condition does, but the main thing I have to do is believe in my choice. Taking risks is always good without it we will not get out of our comfort zone, and we will not thrive for more in life. Risks are like freefalls no safety net only new learnings. our life will always benefit from risktaking we will be able to find our desired goal in life. Taking risks played a huge part in my career today I am doing what I love because of some key decisions. I am from India and I was studying pharmacy back there but it wasn’t my cup of tea. I took a risk to leave that field and do the thing that I loved the most making films. It was a struggle everything was new for me I didn’t had any godfather to guide me. I had to survive on my own. Then I took another risk to come to the USA. Small city from India to Hollywood journey wasn’t pleasant but it needed risktaking, courage, and self-belief. So, life is full of big and small risks sometimes taking them pans out and sometimes don’t but we shouldn’t be scared to do the right thing when the time comes but we shouldn’t be blind.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think every person is unique in their way and what sets them apart is their thinking and life experiences. I think that’s how I am apart from the rest. I am currently most excited about my upcoming film and hope that it will have a great film festival run. professionally where I am today is persistence and hard work. It wasn’t easy. it’s always hard to go opposite of the flow. I didn’t even know that we can have filmmaking as a career, it started from that point and today I am working on so many projects. I was a kid from a small city in India who has a speech problem. So, I had to learn by myself a lot, I had to take risks, and I had believed and bet on myself. I am a pharmacy bachelor and leave that good money and chase my dream and for that come to another side of the world, It was scary at times but if you have passion for something that becomes the driving and guiding force that kept me going. so, it wasn’t easy but I showed little courage and self-belief and today I am good. A lesson learned on the way is really simple if you want something really bad then make a choice and go get it because we get only one life and there should be no regrets in the end. I just want everybody to know if we kept going toward the dream nothing is impossible. So, I just everyone to know that you should keep chasing your dreams, don’t keep them in the closet… closed, chase them, hunt them because in this world anything is possible.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take him t see the HOLLYWOOD sign and Griffith Observatory because they are famous places and he would want to see them and both are beautiful to visit. Then I will take him to the el matador beach. on the beach, we will cross the caves that connect to another beach. It is more peaceful and quiet. we will enjoy our time there and watch the sunset and then for dinner, we will visit an Indian restaurant named Badmash and then during nighttime, we will drive through Downtown LA. In the morning we will go to Griffith Park and watch sunrise and downtown from distance. Then we will go to the LA zoo for a fun time and then for lunch, we will go to The Bombay Franky company. In the evening I will take him to the walk of fame he will buy some stuff there as souvenirs and the night at Santa Monica pier. we will have some quiet time there. these are some places I will show him.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I would like to give a shoutout to my parents, family and for their support, love, and caring and also for teaching me how to become a better human being. I clearly remember my parents saying ” if you don’t earn good money we don’t care that much but we hope you become a good human being.” So I want to say I am grateful for this and many important life lessons. I also want to give the credit to the movie FORREST GUMP. Because of the movie, I learned that no matter how you speak, how you look, or where are you from if you have little courage and self-belief nobody can and will stop you. So I wanna give a shoutout to the movie for making me believe.
