We had the good fortune of connecting with Venius Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Venius, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I felt like to have your own business and do things my way was the Ultimate!! The idea that I could DESIGN my own Collection and someone would be interested in purchasing my creations, just gave me butterflies! I have always believed that I should run my own business, although the idea of it frightened most intrigued me.. because I felt it’s the Ultimate experience FULL Circle ..

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been designing Headwear and Active/Lounge Apparel now for 11 years in LA. When I started designing Turbans, my intentions was to design something- unique, functional, exceptional and create and niche. I somehow figured out how to this by a lot of trial and error. I would say designing only turbans 11 years ago was interesting, but I remained committed to my vision and I was open to learning and expanding. The other thing is that I was fearless about getting my product into consumers hands. Many of my challenges were overcome by just believing in myself. There were so many people in my life that didn’t believe or understand what I was doing. Everyone insisted that I design something else. I was determined to make it work and I felt in my heart that someone will love this turban! When I found my client base and first Sales Rep, I was thinking my prayers have been answered! The best advice I received when I was having a very rocky time running the business and the feelings of exhaustion were beginning to take hold of me and my doubts were starting to overpower my thoughts. I attended this screening with Nicholas Vreeland, at the end of the screening I went to shake his hand and told him about myself…. He said – NEVER GIVE UP!!! The journey of a 1000 steps begins with me simply taking the first one. I would say Dream your Dream and activate your vision, and understand that it might now be easy but the satisfaction of the journey is priceless! I AM SUCCESS!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to the Kundalini Yoga Community, for always thinking of me and supporting my business efforts! There are so many people in the community who have shared with me places to sell, and referred me to clients and introduced me to new business countless times over and over again. When I began designing turbans, my collection was all about fashion and most of my collection was Black! My textiles of choice were silk, velvets, linen, and I was totally into linen tye-dye, at the time. As I became acquainted with the Kundalini community via Natalia Benson, who at the time was a jewelry designer that I had done events with. She absolutely beckoned me to show my products to Golden Bridge Yoga, and of course I ignored her, but she didn’t give up! She later took some of my products to a Yoga Festival and as they say the rest is history.. The Kundalini Community is how I became conscious of natural fibers and single handily inspired the creation of the Yoga Collection an entire new assortment of Turbans and Apparel in natural fibers such as Cotton and Bamboo in whites and natural tones because thats what they wear. Since that time I have sold to Kundalini studios all over the world, and participated in numerous yoga festivals. I became so involved with following the product trail, that as a result one of my customers invite to a Kundalini class, my life has never been the same!! The community, friendships, customers, business, spiritual awakening and the expansion of my conciousness, hands down irreplaceable. I can no longer remember which customers that are not friends and absolutely some of the best people in my life. I am now a Kundalini Yoga Teacher.
