We had the good fortune of connecting with Robyn Winder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robyn, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance is KEY to everything in life, and especially when it comes to work! I’ve never really realized how important it is until a recent situation that I had experienced. I initially started my mini fairy garden business from home, taking orders and shipping my gardens out as well as local pick ups, Last year 2019 I received a business proposal to have a storefront shop selling my mini fairy gardens and accessories. After some thought I decided it would be a great idea and went for it! After trying it out for about a good 6 months, that was when I truly realized the importance of balance! In those short 6 months that seemed like eternity, I had spent countless hours away from my family, my children & husband. Hours that I can never get back, hours that I’ve missed of my family’s life, and times I felt as though my hobby and passion was taking away my family time. At the point in time that I was feeling the most unbalance in my life, I think the universe knew that my heart had enough, and what ironic timing it was that the owner of the building decided to sell his space! I believe in “what’s meant to be!” I am now back to the wonderful place in life like when I had first started my home based business… AT HOME, and happier than ever! Balancing my home life, family, AND being able to be flexible with my own work hours and schedule:) I am grateful however for the experience I had being a business owner of a storefront. It had taught me a lot about running a business, inventory, paperwork, taxes etc…. but most important it taught me that I can continue my passion with my mini garden business at home, AND to be at HOME, where I am so fortunate to be there with and for my family. it taught me that I should never have to sacrifice my happiness in order to love what I do AND to be there with my family. It taught me to find the right balance for MY life. I want to let others know that when things don’t feel right in life, it may be something that you might need to change, and might need to do differently, and sometimes only you can make that change once you recognize it. Also it’s important to find the right balance for your life, whether it’s work, OR a hobby OR relating to family life etc, Finding the right balance in life is just what you may need for the equation of happiness and success! I am beyond thankful for my mini garden business’ continued success, and I’m so appreciative for my amazing customers who love to shop small local business and I am so incredibly thankful for my family’s endless love and support❣️

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make and sell live mini fairy gardens, fairy accessories, and mini succulent & floral arrangements for any occasion! I also sell pre-packaged mini fairy garden Starter Kits that are super popular for gift giving, BIRTHDAY party “make & take” activity, and has been great Mother’s Day gifts!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them places where there is the most beautiful and serene nature to experience like walking our parks, and beautiful trails. I would take them to some of the best vegan places that we enjoy eating at, And of course I would want them to experience our fun family scenic drives and “parties in the car” where we laugh and chat and dance in the car to some good music, and making great memories together!!

Couldn’t have continued the success of my small local fairy garden business without thanking my amazing community and customers who continuously support and shop small business for their mini garden gift giving, purchasing our mini garden “Starter Kits” for Birthday party activities, and our all occasion floral & succulent arrangements! I am blessed for all the love and support! And of course from my family as well!!
