We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracy Ann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tracy, so given all the recent changes to how we live our life given the crisis, have you had any interesting epiphanies?
Interesting question! The epiphany is that folks still are ordering pies. We have received so much love and support for Knowrealitypie it has been truly amazing. Pie is comfort, pie is love. In these uncertain and scary times, we all need comfort and our pies seem to provide that to folks.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are Knowrealitypie. Just a girl and a boy who met long ago, fell in love, and reconnected for a life together 35 years later. Together we live an artistic life, in pie, music and the film industry. Knowrealitypie is a fusion of Real Pies, Really Great Artisan Hand Crafted Pies, 8-time KCRW Award winning pies. Jonathan Gold gave us our first award stating it was truly the best pie in Los Angeles. We are a small Mom and Pop, with unique pie flavors, and we hope to keep it that way – never massed produced. Its about quality for us, not quantity. We have learned that running a business is hard And constant work 7 days a week and a labor of love and passion, and recognition will be minimal. Not for the faint of heart! Balancing business and home life is the biggest challenge. In the current Covid climate, even more difficult. We still need folks to come out and get pie or order contactless Curbside Pickup ahead online. Business despite the love is down by 60 percent and this isn’t over by a long shot for small businesses.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
So many choices here in LA! Knowrealitypie for sure! We like nostalgia, The Dresden Room, the Rooftop at Perch LA, Poolside at The Roosevelt Hotel – looking at the room Marilyn Monroe occupied. Sailing from Long Beach, to Catalina. And all the Gardens and Museums – so fantastic, I will go over and over again to see the art this city offers.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My business partner, Kelly Deco. He is an unwavering pillar of support, creativity and inspiration and a fabulous art department for our business!
Other: I Heart Radio had us on for a Podcast – the highlight of our pie career! It is now said that we have the best Key Lime Pie in LA and thanks to The Fork Reporter, Neil Saavedra – host of the I Heart Radio Show – we can’t keep it stocked!
