We had the good fortune of connecting with Sauli Danpour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sauli, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business within a year after I ended up being homeless living out of my car under an overpass in San Francisco. My job had just terminated after I returned from an out-of-state assignment and I couldn’t afford to move into my own apartment. Although I knew it was a temporary job, I didn’t want my future destiny to be in the hands of others. So within a year I got involved in another business (with no salary, commission only), learned the ropes, then borrowed $2000 and started the business with another individual that put in $2000.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I enjoy the benefits of self-employment and the type of work I do, that is key to professional fulfillment. But running your business is hard work and very challenging. This is true especially when you first start your own business. The key to overcome challenges is to never give up, be persistent and be ready & prepared for setbacks. You can enjoy the perks of self employment when times are good, but you must be ready to delve back into the details of the business and micro manage it when your back is against the wall.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am an outdoor person and for someone that is 64 I am fairly active. A hike through the Santa Monica mountains or a bike down the coast to Palos Verdes Peninsula is an ideal way to entertain a visitor, assuming they are of the same mindset.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
