We had the good fortune of connecting with Cesar Alan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cesar, what’s your definition for success?
Success is not a destination but a state of being. I believe it isn’t something you arrive to, but more a feeling and mindset. Success is the consistency of many failures, and of many no’s – but all it takes is one yes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m extremely passionate about my craft. It took many years to be able to self-produce, write, play, record and sing on my own records. At times I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel – however, I’m glad I put in the time to expand my skills & vision. It has given me the opportunity to create my own sound for which I’m excited to share. Coming from immigrant parents and humble beginnings, success to my family was just getting to this country. My family risking everything to have a better life gave a crazy Latino kid like myself, the attitude to persevere in the music industry. Everything from my background and culture has shaped the identity that I put into my music. It definitely wasn’t easy. It took a lot of faith, resilience, and perseverance, with a “No Plan-B” mentality. Out of the many valuable lessons I’ve learned along the way, I’d say the best one I’ve learned is to BE what you want to attract. Before my time is up, I’d love to leave a legacy by inspiring a culture with purpose and calling. Not just that I made cool relatable music, but that I encouraged individuals that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to – that if a knuckle head like me can make it, so can you. I’d like to think that we are all walking solutions to problems that are yet to be solved.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I suppose pre-covid, LA had some great spots that were open. I’d probably take my friend to Runyon Canyon, 6 Flags Magic Mountain or the Santee Alleys to do some shopping. As far as food, we’d definitely grab a slice at Pizzanista in Downtown, or hit some taco truck action. OH how I miss live music hangs. We would absolutely hit up Sofitel on Monday nights for Jazz Eclectic or Friday nights at Sayers Club. Good times…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several people and organizations, books, and even experiences that surely deserve a shout-out that contributed to my success; however I’ll keep it brief. First and foremost, I gotta shout out God, for if it wasn’t for my faith in Jesus Christ, I definitely would not be here. Have to give a shout out to my family, friends, and even “nay sayers” for the support and motivation. Shout out to great organizations such as SESAC for supporting creatives such as myself. I also have to give credit to many great books and not so great experiences that gave me the opportunity to grow and shift my paradigm.
