We had the good fortune of connecting with Britney Gale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britney, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I believe balance is the key to happiness. It can seem like the simplest thing when in all actuality maintaining balance in all areas of life can be quite challenging. I find in order to be successful in my work which requires me to give to others, I can’t pour from an empty cup. In order to be at my best for my clients I need to prioritize and do what’s necessary to keep my cup filled, a continuous cycle of feeding myself while feeding others.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To be a professional at any level doesn’t come easily. In the words of my father “Hard work and perseverance will always prevail.” Being a professional dancer/instructor comes with many challenges and much rejection. You have to love it, you have to be passionate about it, you have to want it. The more well rounded you are the more opportunities you will have, dance isn’t all that is required. Knowing how to style yourself and your body, doing makeup for stage and commercial. Singing, acting, posing for photos. Networking and understanding the importance of your community. Taking care of your body, staying in shape and knowing the art of teaching what you do to others. Whether someone is watching me dance or is taking a class from me I always focus on the FEELING. Dance has always been an outlet for me and I like to leave each person with a little piece of that experience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The beach is always a must especially living in Southern California. I love driving down the coast with the windows down and the music turned up. Malibu is probably my favorite spot because it’s a little less crowded and has more of a secluded feel. I’m a huge thrifter and fashion junkie so hitting any good thrift shops, flea markets and/or farmers markets would be a must. Going to a couple of my favorite local cafes/
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my “Bod” family! We created a community that truly supports one another. Through many hard life events you have all stuck by my side and shown me support that will never go unnoticed. Can’t thank you all enough for your love and support through the years, from dance studio to zoom classes! We have created some magical dance moments together and plenty of sweaty selfies, cheers to many many more!
