We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Kuo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy, what’s the most important think you’ve done for your children?
If you are a parent, what do you think is the most important thing you’ve done that has a profound impact on your child?

I am a fortunate mom of two beautiful kids. Having lived in different parts of the world, I feel that it is so important for one to be open and respectful of different cultures, accepting diversities with love and compassion. Life is so much more fun and colorful with this attitude! Our family enjoys traveling to different places and trying out authentic cuisines while learning about cultures. This exposure for my children has allowed them to meet and make friends from all backgrounds. Children are wonderful and always welcoming towards all kinds of possibilities and opportunities. Therefore, sharing this mentality with your children is the most important and precious gift that will have a profound impact on the rest of their lives.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I started Olecea to create unique and effective formulations for myself and my children. After the birth of my two kids, my skin condition had changed drastically being extremely sensitive, with uneven skin tone, and even showed signs of aging. My daughter, Olivia, also suffered severe skin eczema conditions since she was 6 months old. I had to do something about it! Having my background in consultation and formulations for skincare brands for more than a decade, I have accumulated knowledge and expertise in the skin care industry. Therefore, I began to formulate using clean and natural organic ingredients from around the world to create Olecea. Turned out, formulations I created were effective for both myself and my daughter! I wanted Olecea to benefit other families just like it did for mine.

The name Olecea represents a part of the flowering plant family that stands for purity, nourishment, and regeneration of the skin. The Olecea brand began with my daughter Olivia, which I believe celebrates one’s love for nature, and connections to beautiful and positive things. I chose the cleanest, most natural, and organic ingredients to formulate our products to make sure that the Olecea products are non-toxic. The natural active ingredients used are clinically tested and proven to improve skin conditions, delivering and fulfilling Olecea’s promise to consumers. On top of that, the BMB (Botanical Marine Blends) formulation system is very unique. One of our blends is plant stem cells and niacinamide from Vitamin B to achieve brightening and skin protection from UV, Blue Light, and IR radiation. We also use recycled or recyclable packaging to be eco-friendly to protect our environment. Parts of our proceeds are donated to charitable causes that benefit women and support water conservation. I am confident that what we have achieved at Olecea is creating a voice in the field of skincare. Beauty should not only be skin deep — it should radiate from inside as well. Although it has been tough to start a skincare brand. The initial capital investments, partners, and product developments were very challenging situations, especially now trying to grow sales during this pandemic. It is always a worthy and priceless experience when my customers come to me with happy smiles letting me know that my skincare formulations made a difference on their skin. I am truly honored to bring happiness to others.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I want to give a shout out to my parents! They live all the way in Taiwan at the moment and I miss them very much. Due to the pandemic, I have not seen them for almost a year now. They are the ones who made my journey in entrepreneurship possible. Ever since I was a little girl, they always encouraged me to achieve my dreams and do things that truly make my heart sing.
